Was in Lewiston,Me and had to pull into the Ramada Inn Hotel. I noticed some Mohos at the rear of the hotel, plugged in. Were they camping? Is this usual? This looks like it would be better and safer than Walmart.

It is unusual, but not unheard of. I've learned to check with the hotel about parking my trailer before staying there. One time we went to a basketball tournament for our daughter in San Diego. We decided to take the trailer with us for an extended vacation.

I didn't even think to ask about storing the trailer at the hotel we stayed at with the team. I stored the trailer at the RV park, and it was kind of a hassle. Later I found out that the hotel had a lot next door that I could have stored my trailer.

Several trips up and down the east coast, I have stayed at Motel campgrounds from Florida to Maine, so yes it is done. The cost is usually a little lower than the local CGs.

When we had our pop-up we didn't want to deal with setting up and breaking down if we had a destination so we would overnite at hotels on the way there and back.

About two years ago traveling the NC coast and being really put off by the dumpy campgrounds available off-season in the Outer Banks, we finally ended up at a Quality Inn that had electric hookups and charged $25 per night to 'camp' there. About 10 spaces total. Even got a nice continental breakfast in the deal!

I worked at a couple of motels and we had outlets for RV'ers, we charged $5 a night for the electricity.

Think of it like the newspapers. Never believe what you read.
