We took the unit I mentioned above for a test drive yesterday. It's got plenty of pick up, the exhaust brake works awesome and it's reasonably quiet going down the road. The only thing I noticed that didn't seem as good as the Endura and the Greyhawk we drove, was it had alot of body roll. Is that from the 213" wheel base, vs the 225" on the Greyhawk, or do they set them up with different springs?

Quote: Is the LMM in the 5500 series in the same state of tune and the 2500 and 3500 pick ups?
No, I don't think so. There are many iterations of the Durmax. I believe the pick-ups have higher HP, not sure about the torque.

Sorry. It's a Four Winds 32B with the Duramax/Allison

Okay,
After reviewing the MPG on diesel units, we're now looking at some gas units. With a six speed, the 8.1 liter gas units are really an option for us, especially with the cheaper buy in and the ridiculous cost of diesel in our area vs regular unleaded. I'm still a little foggy on the VIN thing. Does anyone know for sure when the six speed Allison went into the Kodiak chassis? The only RPO code I could find that might be an indicator was M2724. The VIN on this unit is 1GBE5U1G88F400878, which would be a 2008 chassis? The other two units were 2007 chassis, but I don't have any RPO codes. 1GBE5U1G77F412633 and 1GBE5U1G37F412175. Any input would be appreciated.

My gaser has a six speed, looked at the code on the visor, (MTR). The chassis mfg date on the door says 10/06,and the Jayco mfg date is 3/07. Also, I see about 7 mpg towing a 6500#, 22ft trailer. (60 mph)

6 speed was announced by GM for the 2007 model year. Some 2007 MH models may have the 2006 chassis, which would be a 5 speed.

It's pretty hard to justify the added cost of the Duramax for a 2 mpg difference, and $10K+ price difference, plus diesel going for more $0.30 per gallon more than regular unleaded. So why am I still considering both? Because my Duramax pick up pulls like a dream!

I agree the diesel is not worth it just for the potential mileage increase. With higher maintenance costs and more expensive fuel your probably not saving anything. But when you also get the diesel generator and the exhaust brake it makes the choice harder. I still think the diesel package is better if you can afford the price difference. I would not like to drive my rig where I do without the exhaust brake.

I agree. I'm hoping I can make a really sweet deal on a diesel, if not the gas allison does have a tow haul mode that will help with braking and it's CHEAPER!
