Just an interim update. Some of the other moderators and I have tried to duplicate the problem with IE-6, IE-7 and Firefox and we cannot.

My suggestion is to sign out, and back in again but through one of the other portals. If you don't already have them bookmarked or in your Favorites, they are listed at:
Alternate "portals" to the RV.net Open Roads Forums

I'm having the same problem. It's been happening for a couple of days now. Near as I can figure, it happens after a page that has the advertisement break with "Ads by Google". The URL that gets in the Go Back list is really long. http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub ...etc. etc. etc. If you go to the URL nothing happens but you get a 404 page in the back list.

I'm running XP and IE6 SP2.

We are still unable to duplicate the problem you are experiencing. Reports of this nature should include:
Operating system: Microsoft, Mac, Linux
Browser, i.e., IE-6, IE-7, Firefox, Mozilla, etc.
Portal, i.e., RV.net, Trailer LIfe, Good Sam, etc.
Toolbar, Google, Yahoo, Alta Vista, etc.

I am running Explorer 7.0.6000.16512 on a Windows Vista system amd have the Google Toolbar installed. I experienced the problem accessing the forums through RV.NET and Good Sams portals. I haven't tried the other portals. The problem I am having can be seen in this short video where it shows me going into the Motorhome forum and then showing the Recent Pages including the google address that is causing the problem. I then show that I need to go Back twice to return to the Open Roads Forum. Before you hit the Play button increase the window size to as large as you can.

terrific video accsys, thank you! Best "screen shot" I have ever seen!

Hopefully that will turn up some answers for you.

I used a product called Jing which is in development by TechSmith, the same company that makes SnagIt and Camtasia. Currently it is free as well as minimal space at Screenshots.

Here's some additional info after messing around a bit. I tried accessing some of the other portals without experiencing the problem. However I was not logged in. If I log in and my preferences take effect, the problem reoccurs on any portal. I did notice that the unlogged-in topics per page is shorter than my 40 per page chosen in preferences. I changed my topics per page back to 20 and the problem goes away. The offending link is not present in the shorter page. There is an "Ads by Google" link present but not the offending one. The offender has a fancier script. At 20 topics per page there are only two ad breaks, but there are three ad breaks at 40 topics per page. When you have the third ad break present the problem returns. For now I'm leaving my page at 20 topics and will see how it goes.

I also have my preferences set to 40 posts per page. I checked the ads and noticed that an ad loads after every 10 posts. The ad after the first three sets of three loads fine but the last one has a website error ("The webpage cannot be found"). It doesn't make any difference which forum, they all have the error on the last (4th) banner ad.

I am at work now and it is doing the same thing on my Windows XP, SP2, Explorer 7 system there. I also noticed that when I went into a posting that had enough replies to generate that 4th banner ad, the same thing happens. You get the "Webpage cannot be found" error for the last banner ad and you get that intermediate google site that requires you to hit Back twice. This was the first time I had been in a posting that long since this started happening last Friday.
