We are getting snow early this year as of lately, not lasting long on the roads yet. If you leave this week and get a move on should be fine.

You did not say anything about your truck. My 4X4 Chevy 2500HD with our 915 loaded just flat amazes me with it's grip on snow covered roads. We did get stuck once but I was pushing snow with the front bumper at the time.

Our 915 has the cold weather package and we have used it with water in, at temps as low as +8 degrees. We do leave the furnace on all the time when it's that cold.

Just stick to major roads you will have a great time.

If you are retired, wait for warmer weather. We were in Utah for ten days a couple of weeks ago and one morning we got up to 28 degrees. We left on the 23 of Sept from Arizona and were already too late for missing cold. Should have been the week before (kids already back in school so the parks are not jammed)

WHenever you decide to go, good luck

Thanks all for your input, I think we will stick to main roads. Our truck (GMC 3500 duramax 4x4) should serve us well. Can't post pic of wife, but will say except for a few dings and dents, she looks good for her age.

Winter travel...HELLL.....thats when I wanna go. NO body around....I can drive in snow with the best of em. I can't wait for 10 degress and a foot of snow. IT IS MY SIGNAL to go camping. Take it slow....life is too short to wait for anything as much fun as camping in the cold and snow.

I like winter camping too for all the same reasons, but have yet to drive in the snow. Is 2wd DRW with a camper a problem in the snow? I bought the dually chains with the welded cross links just incase, but have been lucky so far.

I have found that on ice and snow the scariness comes from not being able to stop which has nothing to do with the 4x4. 4x4 helps going up the mountain, but not down. LOL

If it's really bad, they close the roads and you will end up camping right there.

I wouldn't worry bout it with chains, but if you need those, might just want to pull over and wait till the plows come by.

Cool, thanks. Remember I'm in CA and they require chains when there is a light dusting and close the roads with just a little snow. So chances are if there is snow they will make me put chains on. Good info on the stopping, I'll drive real slow!
