Let's pull this back to the main topic and that is how to protect your vehicle in Mexico & USA. I also place locking nuts on my wheels and a cable around my spare (both pickup & trailer).

Please let’s stay focused on the original post, using cutoff switches for the electrical system and fuel is a good idea.
Probably until this settles down one person might stay with the vehicle while the others do the shopping. Not convenient but save.
Maybe you could tip the parking attendant in advance, not sure that would be better than the commission is getting the other way. But it would be a good gesture and maybe avoid the situation.
We've parked in that Wal-Mart lot several times and never gave any mind to security, but we will be more careful now even here in the quiet town of San Carlos.
If anybody has any more ideas on security tips please come forward.
