Retired 1/05 from Sedgwick County Fire District #1 with 32 years. Just now getting to sleep in the house full time. Worked 24/48 shift schedule which the DW got used to. DW made me sleep in the MH every 3rd day after I retired. She wasn't used to me being home all the time. Miss the guy's, but not the politics. Yes I do know about tanker (tenders here) schuttle operations. It's one of the most important apparatus for rural area's.

Boy there are so many firefighter-types on RV.net maybe we should petition Admin for our own forum! LOL! We could have firedude moderate for us!

We could even call it Chariots of Fire!

My husband is a retired firefighter. He was with Hawthorne Fire Dept for 23 years and then they merged with LA County Fire Dept. where he continued until he retired in March of 2005 with 31 years of service. We have been trying to start an RV club for firefighter families in the Southern Calif. area. I love your name would you mind if I steal it?

Never heard you guys called band-aids, only rig nurses, congrats on the promotion, guess that makes you a rig doctor

FF/EMT, Memphis, Tn. 9 yrs and counting. Paid, full time, it is amazing how many guys do this as volunteers, I am grateful to actually be paid to something that so many do for free.

20 Years on rural volunteer department. In those years I held every position + board member, except chaplan. 3 of those years I was an EMT, one of the first 200 licensed in Indiana. Retired as Indiana certified master firefighter in arson detection and fire safety. Does the old smoke-eater ever not jump at the bell?

Back in the early 70's I spent 4 yrs in the Central, La Volunteer fire dept. Its a small rural town near Baton Rouge. Attended training at LSU Fire Training School. We got a lot of hand-me-down equipment from the Baton Rouge fire dept and I was real proud when I got my first set of Fire Boots, except they were both left feet. We were a proud outfit and never lost a lot.

US Army in RVN and after that nearly 25 years as a LEO. Saw some brave men do some brave things but you FF types have a major pair. My hat is off to you.
