Reese Duel Cam IS a weight distributing hitch with a built in sway dampening system. What makes them different than MOST other types of anti sway systems is that they use the spring pressure of the weight distribution bars themselves to dampen sway. Any kind of hitch that uses friction applies as much force in keeping the hitch connection bent as it applies in keeping it straight. In other words it always tries to maintain the status quo. The Duel cam system actually will apply force to straighten the connection then uses much greater force to keep it straight. That is the basis for their claim that it resists sway BEFORE it occurs. It works very well but so do a number of OTHER sway dampening systems. Good luck / skip

The Reese Dual Cam is a weight distribution and anti-sway hitch. Very popular as you will soon find out.
We have it on ours and love it.

Skip did a nice job of describing Dual Cam. Basically weight distribution and sway control in one unit.

i have a reese plain old wd sys. but i believe i want sway control, so iyo.....this dual cam is the better of the 2....friction controlled/ or dual cam?
or better question is it worth the $$$

The Dual Cam IS NOT a WD hitch. It is a sway control ONLY that can be used with either a Reese WD hitch or other WD hitches (not the Equalizer since this does combine WD and sway control). If the tips of the bars do not I'll say fit nicely over the cams an adapter can be used. Check out the Reese website for a complete description on how it works.

A Dual Cam SWAY control will be better and cheaper than 2 friction bars.

You can add the #26000 or #26001 dual-cam kit to your existing reese plain old wd sys, about $200.

I just installed a Reese Straight Line (dual cam) system on my rig - have yet to tow with it though. I bought it from Etrailer.com (not an endorsement.) Etrailer offered 99 cent shipping on purchases over $150. The Reese WD Dual Cam system was $84 more than a regular WD system and a friction sway. From what I read on here I figured it was worth it. I think what makes the Dual Cam work so well is the curves in the bars. The spring pressure pushes down on the bars, making the curves want to stay seated on the "cams". That way, it resists the forces before they happen and will want to come back to center so the curves can re-seat. I have read that they can be noisy/clunky on turns, but you don't want to put any grease on the cams/curves, since the little bit of friction is your friend. I also read you don't have to disconnect them when backing and turning, as you would with a friction sway
