Read my post that I started last week:
http://www.trailerlife.com/cforum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/20448299.cfm

I looked at around 15 trucks. Ford, Toyota, Chevy and Dodge.

I pick up a 08 F-150 on Thursday (Oct 18th) .
I went with a 08 F-150, XLT,5.4 super crew (4 door), 6.5' bed, 3:55 rear, tow mirrors, two tone, tow package, rear sliding window, running boards, fog lamps, keyless entry pad, 17" aluminum wheels, Sirius radio, 37 gal fuel tank. MSRP $35,590 Out the door for $32,600 then minus $2500 rebate's
Grand total $30,100

Last night I looked again at the Chevys, The biggest down side to them (to me) is the 5.8' bed, and all the ones (in a 250 mi radius of where I live) have a 3:73 (this ratio is stock) rear their was only one with a 4:10 and that was on the "max" with a 6.0 liter motor ($46,000) a little high !! Why not buy a 2500 for that kind of cash. Also rebates for the 08's are $1,500 not 0%. 0% on the 07's.

I looked at the Dodges the other week when I picked up my Dakota from the dealer, this was after the second rear was put in it after 47,000 miles...Enough said.

Toyotas, "What is on the sticker is what we can sell it to you for" that is the quote from three local dealers. and the stickers had numbers in the $40,000's,

Again, I have a 4500lb Jayco 23 B, no intention in trading that in for quite some time. God forbid the trailer burns to the ground we would not get anything larger then a 26' (only the wife and I). That said the 3:55' will do fine.

Good luck.....Look and drive, once, twice and maybe even three times.

I have the same situation; need a daily driver plus the ability to tow a good size TT. I done a bunch of internet research; I went with the '07 Chevy 1500Max with the Max trailering package. 6.0 (367hp) coupled with 4.10 = 10,500. Other areas are also beefed up. My MPG is around 14 as my everyday driver. Got mine for much less than the above...that 1 must have leather and then some. Obviously everybody has favorites and all of them put out lemons every now and then. Choice is yours. Good luck.

Do some homework then try them all. There is no right answer. I'm sure you'll be happy with any.

Trucks, I've had a GM and now a Ford. Ford builds a better truck. Can't speak about Dodge. So:

Ford, Nissan, Toyota, GMC then Dodge.

Oh, don't forget to get back to us with pictures of your new ride.

Cheers.

Did Chevy quit offering standard and long beds on their trucks for '08? The 5.8' bed is the short bed, 6.6' bed should be the standard with an extended cab truck and the 8' long bed is such a staple of pick ups, I sure couldn't see any sense in Chevy dropping the option?

A myth perpetuated from old info spread by those who don't know any better.
And it continues to spread thanks to new posters who don't have a clue. Please show me a gas truck with 300+ HP that gets better mileage than the Dodge? I'm not talking about 1-2 MPG better since we love throwing out that gas guzzler statement, give me something outstanding. With factual numbers nobody can.

For the original poster, the new Dodge has a unlimited drivetrain warranty. Mine's a great truck just passed 120,000 miles last week and the engine is still running strong. The truck is still solid even though I am pretty hard on it.

On the crew cab (4 real doors) they only make the bed in 5.8 foot.
On the extended cab they make the longer bed.

Oh lets see... I got a good one for ya. I filled up this morning at the Hess station on my way to work. I drove 317 miles from Albemarle NC to Raliegh NC and then back. I then stopped at the same Hess station and filled up again. The tank took 16.2467 gallons. This equals 19.51MPG I ran 70-75 MPH all the way there. I hit stop and go traffic in Clayton. I had 5 men in the truck and a bed full of crap! I am pretty impressed with my "little 6000#" crew cab F-150. The axle specs and engine specs are in the sig. Now I can tell you this. The guy I work with has a Dodge PU. It is a crew cab with 20" wheels. He doesn't see anywhere near the mileage I do, wether he's towing or not. Our Dodge Durango RT would get 11MPG on a good day with a feather on the gas. If I was playing with it I got 9! Dodge is notorious for crappy MPG. If your buying a truck to tow with you shouldn't be worried about mileage any way... it's going to be bad no matter what you have. I am just grateful that the F-150 gets GREAT MPG when not towing..... this is where it spends 80% of it's time.I have owned all of the big 3. The Dodge spent more time in the repair shop for brakes and transmissions than anything else I have ever had. Like stated above, all of them can build a lemon.

04 Super crew 4X4 with 5 men in the truck traveling at 70 to 75 mph averaging 19.51 mpg. Better keep it.
Having had a 345 HP Dodge in a 3/4 ton (2004 2 wheel drive ), my mileage would have been closer to 18.5, however he did say 300+ HP.
Perhaps the challenge still stands.

Dodge Durango R/T? What are we talking about, a 5.9L 360? I have already said that the OLDER v8s, like my very own 5.9L 360, are fuel guzzlers. OLD INFO DUDE!!!!!!!!!

The NEWER v8s 4.7L and 5.7L Hemi, get mileage similar to competitors engines in test after test after test.

That is a very nice ride but I think you will have a tough time getting 37 gallons in a Supercrew. Pretty sure it is a 30 gallon tank. I wish I had that extra 5 gallons, mine is only 25.
