Can dealerships usually order the specific model that you're looking for, or do they pressure you to purchase from their existing inventory? For example, the Forest River Flagstaff 25BHSS has everything that we're looking for in a TT. It's lightweight, only 27', and it has a jackknifed sofa/bed which would come in especially handy for tailgaiting during the college football season. We have 19 month old twin boys, and while this isn't the biggest trailer, it's a comfortable size for us to grow into for years to come.

There are 2 Flagstaff dealerships here in the Seattle area, but none of them have this model in stock. I would assume that I could order what I want and wait for it to arrive. Is that accurate? Thanks in advance!

We ordered our Rockwood from the dealer, one dealer we went to had three in stock and still would have ordered one for us.

Of course dealers can order a specific model (if it is still being made...probably not for a 2007 model at this late date but who knows) and of course they want to sell what they have on their lot!

Most dealers can and will also hunt down the model you want and have it shipped to them off another dealers lot!

A unit off their lot that is last years model or older (but new) unit (2007 or earlier) should be heavily discounted compared to a 2008 model.

Tell the dealer(s) you are shopping for xxxx model and to call you with a price if they find one...then walk off. If there is one to be had they'll do the work of finding it.

Not only did we order our last 2 trailers... but we ordered them with a number of "custom" changes, both additions and deletions from the same model that we saw on the lot.

If you are willing to wait awhile you can get pretty much exactly what you want.

In MOST instances you can order whatever you want but check with the dealer. SOME manufacturers (I wasn't going to mention Coachmen) will only ship in certain sized lots which can be difficult for small dealers to handle. One of our local dealers that USED to sell (the brand I'm not going to mention) dropped the line because he was required to order them 10 at a time and he has a very small operation. Good luck / Skip

I was going to order a Rockwood and the wait was going to be 4-5 weeks (in late 2003). In August 2003, I was looking at a new 2003 Rockwood 2502 and I went to the information sticker and saw it was manufacturer in April 2002. It was new and current year model but had been exposed to the weather 16 months. I found an identical (except for trim) Flagstaff 25D. It was a 2004 model and was, was made 2 weeks before and was just delivered. Be sure to check the manufacture date on any trailers on the dealer's lot. The year model changeover is very early in the year.

Now that we've identified a model (and a floorplan) that will meet our needs, we'll be ready to act on this after next season. Our plan is to pick up my new 1/2 ton truck in the next couple of months and then snag a couple of rentals this spring/summer. Come September/October of 2008, we'll be ready to roll with EXACTLY what we want. Who knows, if we can find the deal we're looking for in August, maybe we'll grab her then and get a couple of months of camping under our belts before winter?

I have to admit that I'm more interested in ordering the unit to our exact specifications than I am getting the best deal. We won't need massive upgrades/options, but I would like to ensure that it has things like the outdoor BBQ, upgraded AC, solid fans, and wiring for a small TV jack in the rear bunk area. Considering that I've been in sales for over 14 years now, I'm confident that I'll negotiate a pretty good price. I've spoken with a couple of people whom I work with, and they both said to try and time the purchase to late in the camping season to the beginning of winter. Like most businesses, they want to move units before their quiet season, and my buddy also said that the dealerships are much more relaxed that time of the year. We'd likely get a bit more TLC. Does that sound right to you guys as well?

Thanks again!

getting EXACTLY what you want by ordering one? DOUBTFUL!! Not to sound rude, but after several trips you will realize that some things are just not perfect. I call that ROUGHING IT.
I would have liked to order mine, and was close to doing that. We almost ORDERED a 27'TT. After talking to the salesman, he found a 32'TT on his lot that had been used as a meeting room for factory reps. The meetings was held on their lot. It is a much nicer unit than the 27' and about $6k cheaper because it had to be sold as a DEMO. But I think we mostly got lucky. Ordering is nice.
