For all you others, thanks very much for your thoughts and helpful information. We look forward to it provided she's not in the clouds or if there's a long line of cars. We sure wouldn't want to prohibit their drive.

Thanks for the thoughts - We were simply asking the question as we have limited time going north to south without the luxury of enough time to park the coach at one end, drive it round trip in the toad then head south on I-81 in the coach.
Just thought we'd ask (in case you were wondering).
I think we fall into the courteous category with regard to pulling over. I appreciate the lesson though.

No lesson intended. Someday, when you do have the luxury of parking at one end and taking, say 3 or 4 days, to explore this great drive, unrushed, stopping at trailheads and picnic spots, scenic outlooks, etc., along the way, you may be very glad you parked the MH and did it in the toad (or in your Porche), staying overnight at motels along the way. This has to be the numer one most wonderful sports car drives in America.

I live at the top of the SKyline drive in Front Royal area and have taken the coachs on the Skyline Drive and BRP many times. It is a great way to see the skyline drive. You can park in many of the overlooks but not all of them. I will say that if you go in the middle of the week it is easier too.

Thanks John -
We're thinking of just doing the Skyline part to see how it goes. We know we're asking for a lot of traffic by getting into it on a Saturday, but we're in no rush. How's the foliage down there? We're in New Hampshire and it's just beyond peak where we are (central part of the state). It wasn't one of the more spectacular foliage seasons. Been very dry which has a tough effect on it. But, very nice, in any event.
We 're going to hold up at the good ol' Flying J in Winchester Friday then head for front royal early in the morning. We hope we can get a little jump on the traffic. Then it's Flying J in Wytheville Saturday night. Chattanooga Sunday then Westward Ho to hit Mesa, AZ Wednesday.

Heading south Via I-81 this weekend and thinking of detouring onto the Skyline and Blue Ridge with coach and toad. Recommended? Campground with easy in and out? Dry camping anywhere?

Thanks for the help!

Slight delay for us but we're leaving for FL via the BRP Tuesday.

Since you left this weekend have you had any problems parking overnight without a campground reservation??

Hi Tom -
We ended up bypassing the ridge. Weather was terrible and the cloud ceiling was well below the height of land. Can't help you with a campground report. Sorry about that. We're in Chattanooga TN right now and the weather's beautiful today here.

You need to think about fuel and some of the junctions on/off are on tight roads. Personally I would not take an A or my previous trailer on the BRP but yes it is doable. Check out the Web Site which a previous poster provided.

I can't imagine why anyone would do it in a Corvette. When everyone knows it is better trip to ride it on a Motorcycle.

With a maximum speed limit of 45 miles per hour does it really make any difference what vehicle is used??
