I remember when i was a kid that I first saw a sliding glass patio door on a large 5th wheel. This would have been in the late 70's and the trailer wasn't a park model. While I thought it looked cool, it seems that I never saw any more of those patio doors until maybe the last 5-7 years. This leads me to believe that the early patio doors had a lot of problems.
Last weekend while camping with my sweetie, we happened to see a few newer trailers with sliding glass patio doors and we wondered how well they held up over time, and how vulnerable they were on the road with the occasional flying debris.
Are those double pane glass? If so I am really interested in the quality of the seals. If not unsulating glass that must be tough of the heating and cooling loads.

We have one in our 2006 Terri Quantum. The best part was it was a NO CHARGE upgrade. We have been using it for about 1 1/2 years without any problems. It is double pane i believe (no condensation problems). We would do it again.

Had one on last Sportsman TT we had.
Single pane and always reminded me more of a 'storm door' than a real exterior door(read very light weight door).
Opening wasnt all that plumb either, so had some drafts around the sealing edges when it was cold or wind blew hard
Guess they'll vary a lot from manufacturer to manufacturer

We have one on our 32' Aliner Retreat.
The deck folds up via winch to protect it from road debris.
Double pane and tinted with a sliding screen.
Dee Oh Gees cant open it like they learned to do
in the MH.
Love it and would not want it any other way.
The deck makes it even better

If you saw more than one of these trailers with sliding glass patio doors in one place you probably saw a group of Irish Travellers. The trailers are Franklins or Luxury by Design. I am guessing they are manufactured somewhere in Indiana. They are typically listed for sale on Craigslist or the local newspaper. The Travellers are the only people I know that sell the trailers. I guess they would hold up ok as long as you werent planning to move the trailer. Go to your local video store and rent a copy of the 1997 movie Travellers if you want to learn more.

I tow the above TT up and down the east coast and have had no issues.
Slides easier than the one in my stick house.
In fact..
If I leave the front of the trailer slightly low
the door almost auto closes.
I did add a strip of closed cell gasket to the leading edge.
This cushions the closure and aids in sealing.

No Irish Travelers. The ones spotted were on a Wilderness and a Springdale.
