I know the question of where to stay in Chicago has been asked on here many times, but this one is a bit different...

We are full timers, and want to go visit my sister who lives in Chicago. We can go stay with her, but I believe its illegal to bring a trailer to surface streets in the city. So we were hoping to leave our TT somewhere outside the city for a couple of nights while we go stay at her apartment. Does anyone know of a place we could do this? Any RV storage places that will let you keep it there for just a couple of nights? Or do we need to get a campsite somewhere, leave our TT and drive into the city?

Thanks for any insight!

Does your sister actually live in downtown / city of Chicago or a suburb of the city?

Harrah's has a casino about a 1/2 hour outside of Chicago(can't remember the town name). I've never been to the casino but I'm betting(no pun intended)they have a parking area for RV's and maybe dropping your TT there would be an option. Just a thought.

Harrah's has a casino in Joliet, IL but that is in the center of the city and there is no parking there except for a parking garage...

Another option would be the Empress Casino (also in Joliet, IL) that has their own RV park and charge ~ $25/night for W/E...exit #130 off I-80

A second option would be the Windy City Campground which is a bit closer to Chicago (exit #148 off I-80)

My sons farm is located in Genoa Il, approx 60 miles West of chicago. There is a lot of open space for a trailer there. Let me know?

Sadly the streets of Chicago are not RV friendly its a shame
because there are so many great things to see there. Yes you
will have to drop your TT and drive in to the city.

Note: If you have one ton plates on your TV you will not be
able to drive on many of the streets in Chicago. You have
to be aware of that too. Don't ask me how I know.

I just read on another post that the only CG close to Chicago
has closed. And any others you might find will be closed for
the season.

Storage areas just over the state line are about 50 to 80 bucks
a month. And many do not ask for a security deposit.

This is what I had one of my friends do. They stuck it in a
storage area and paid the one month fee, and then pulled out
when they were ready. RV was in a secure place and they thought
it to be worth it. Good Luck.

I've read a listing of a KOA north of Chicago, but no sure how far from where you'll be or if they're closed for the season.

She lives downtown, somewhere near Soldier Field.

The campground at IBSP is open all year; no reservations required or needed during the off season.

Hookups are electric only (30A and 50A).

When commuting to Chicago you can either drive in on the Edens Expressway (not recommended) or take the Metra train (recommended).

Abel RV in Bartlett has RV storage. We used them while we were adding on to our driveway. You can store short term. They are also a RV dealership. If this is too far for you, I might try other dealerships in the area and ask them if you could pay to keep your RV on their lot for a short time.
