I am a military wife and teacher who wants to camp while DH is deployed. I am looking for other women with kids that would like to do outings and maybe even some long distant trips during school breaks and the upcoming summer. You can PM me if you are uncomfortable about posting your status on here. I know that there must be more women out there like me that would enjoy traveling with other women with kids. We could have safety in numbers and increase the possibility of our kids having same age peers to interact with. Take me for instance, my 15 years old DD would love to have someone besides my 5 years old DS to talk to all the time. There's only so much bugs and gusts she can stand. I look forward to hearing from women with kids that are looking for adventures and relaxation like me.

One place to check is your local YMCA - Ask about the Y-Adventure Guide program ( formerly the Y-Indian Guides ). They should have several groups inc. a Mother/Child group. If they are like our program they will do alot of camping along with other events.

More info on our program:
Father-Daughter group

Father - Son group

Good luck

Good luck on your search. I have a great friend that loves camping and we spent many nights in a tent with our two youngest sons. That was actually the spring break tradition when they were young.

God Bless You for your willingness to camp solo with the kids. I do it often with my two sons because my husband's work prevents him from taking vacation time from September to May, so I often take the kids on a Spring Break trip and long weekend trips when they have time off from school. As a matter of fact I've got a trip planned weekend after next to Savannah with the boys...and ironically I'm taking a mom and son from our Adventure Guides circle with us (Someone posted here about the program - it's great here in Georgia and my sons enjoy the activities and I enjoy the bonding time with them).

Here in Georgia we have several camping groups - some affiliated with national camping organizations and others just online groups (Yahoo alone has 3 Georgia camping groups)...and what we have done is attended rallies with those groups...often there will be kids along so they're happy, and I feel more secure camping with the group...but I'll admit I don't have any problems going solo if necessary. Maybe you can find similar groups in Florida as a start. (Do a Yahoo Groups search for Florida Campers or Jacksonville Campers, etc.)

Good luck and don't give up on having great camping experiences with your kids while your husband is away! (and God Bless him for serving our country!!!)

Now i wish we were closer because it's nothing for us to pack up & go without the DH camping for a long extended weekend. I'm sure you'll find some new friends out there to make some trips with. Don't give up hope!

Thank you.

I've joined a local group online and will do my first outing with them in early November. The group that I joined are a great bunch of people and very helpful. I can't wait to meet them. I just think it would be nice to camp with other women who are taking their kids out sometimes. I think it would be like the girls getting together taking the kids to the zoo, movies, or the park. We could help or support each other without fear or embarrassment. I think that maybe a lot of women probably could handle taking the rvs out but may be a little intimidated about doing it without support. I know I was until I said that I was not going to let that TT sit in the yard and wait on DH to come back and take me where I want to go. I wanted to go but was afraid of not doing things right; you know we don't like to look stupid. Now, I understand that we all have to learn one way or the other if we want to enjoy this lifestyle to its fullest. However, its always cool to have a buddy or two to talk it through with or laugh at yourself.

Thanks Tami.

I am a single mom that bought a pop up in May '06. My son, now 10, camped 36 nights the first year and have 39 so far this year. He is my 'only' camping buddy.

We will be in Florida for a week next August at Henderson. We love Florida!
