Okay, first I reviewed the FAQ, then I searched for the topic. I did not find any answers so maybe you all can help me.
I drained my water system today. Getting cold out now, 19 degrees last night! I opened up my low point drains and the water tank drain. Then I went inside and opened all the faucets to release pressure. Then I went back outside because I forgot the shower. Did that one. Later I came back and removed the plastic plug from the water heater tank. Except nothing came out?!?! Is that normal? Is it because I opened the low point drain earlier in the day? I have been using the water heater all year and I know I did not drain it before this.
Thanks in advance for your wisdom!

Either the low-point drain pulled water from the water heater or there is alot of sediment that has clogged the drain hole.

Easy enough assessed. A small wood dowel, or a coat hanger wire in the bung should resolve the question.
The WH is typically elevated above the basement drain plugs, and will likely drain there with the rest of the system. I assume you will flush it with antifreeze, or at least blow it out with air. Just don't forget the toilet valve. I did once!

You may not have a vent for the tank to drain. Open the relief valve and see if water does not come out the drain. I drained my tank yesterday for the third time in nine years and still no sediment came out, even using the sediment flush tool. Once more I had to replace the plastic drain cap - even the manufacturer plugs seem to distort and become difficult to remove.
Good luck

My guess is that the WH drained when you opened the low point system drain. To be of the safe, I would follow through with wgeorge11's suggestion and use a dowel or coat hanger wire to check and clear possible blockage.

I second Gweber3369's advice, if I don't open the relief valve, the water just trickles out... Good Luck

I really doubt a 2007 water heater is plugged, unless you were using really muddy water. A quick rinse with the flush hose adapter will tell though. I think the low-point drains also drained the water heater tank.

I often drained my previous trailers hot water tank by opening the low point drains and a hot water faucet. It DOESN'T flush out sediments like opening the drain plug however. Don't forget to REPLACE the plastic plug with a new one now that it's out. You'll thank yourself later if you don't re-use them. Good luck / Skip

Now how'd you know I did that while pumping in A LOT of pink stuff? Next you'll remind others I once forgot to replace the TV oil filter while adding 5 quarts of oil to the ground!
