You can get 500 hp out of a 4 cylinder if you push enough air in it.
It means nothing.
Are they really going to market it?
I don't think so. The Regular Tundra is having a hard enough time staying on the road.
Problems with:
Engine - cam shafts
Frame - flex
Tail gate - breaking
Transmission - shifting
The only thing that works is the rear view mirror.
Really? I haven't had a single problem with mine. And I know 4 other fellas who have not experienced problems either. I think that these problems are few and far between. And Toyota makes every effort to resolve them quickly.

For giggles .... your engine develops a kazillion hp, but only 200 ftlbs of torque. Now, you could run all day at 65MPH pulling a 10K trailer, but how many days would it take you to get to 65? Only 1 and thats downhill with a tailwind .....

I think you need to read the HP vs Torque sticky thread, Larry. You don't need a bunch or torque as long as you have the HP and gearing.

Wrongo,
Camshafts: Isolated to about 20 early production vehicles, most never released to the public. Now a non-issue but still circulates the web and provides old fodder for Tundra Bashers.
Frame flex: Never shown to be a problem, or even undesirable in the real world. Fodder for unsophisticated Tundra Bashers with no engineering background or knowledge that were hoodwinked by the Ford-leaked youtube video designed to show Tundra and Chevy in a bad light.
Transmission: Never a problem with the superb 6-speed trans. "Rumble Strip" problem traced to some bad torque converters and problem solved on all new build models. If you have an early production model, problem shows up very soon. Worst case scenario: you get a new upgraded torque converter.
Tailgate: Possibly a problem depending on whether you use the tailgate to load heavy objects. If you do, avoid this truck.
Superb 6-speed

Yeah, I'm aware of that article. It's posting info that we now know is incorrect. It refers to the "rumble strip" problem. Toyota first though it was a trans problem, replaced a few trannys, but later discovered the problem was coming from the torque converter due to a few with some bad welds. All Tundras after a build date of 10/1 have an updated torque converter.

Doesnt TRD sell a Supercharger kit for the 5.7? I thought they had them almost all of the vehicles they sell.

TRD at one point had one for the base 4.7L engine as well, which boosted the #'s to around what the 5.7 puts out.

One big difference here referring to the thread you are talking about. Toyota's 500hp Tundra is a one off with no plans to be widely produced if at all. Dodge was thinking about upping the Hemi to 400hp and putting it in all levels of their Ram line. One is concept, one was much closer to reality. It isn't like any of todays trucks are power starved. Perhaps manufacturers should look at improving what is connected to the motor instead of blabbing about HP numbers. For example all but Ford have more HP than the Titan, yet it tows 2nd to only the Tundra in 2 different pull offs. One was Trailer Boats and I think Popular Mechanics did the other. Not bad. Admittedly the Titan has more torque than the Hemi and the 6.0 GM.
FWIW I guess you missed my post saying I would have been more impressed with 5 more mpg than 100 more hp.

Good point. But Dodge is making it clear that its intentions with the new HEMI is more hp AND better mpg. How? guess we don't know at this point. Variable valve timing is definitely a possibility.
As well, they're seriously developing a series of dual clutch, sequential shifting, automated manual transmissions to use in the upcoming light and heavy Ram lineups. These DSG style transmissions will be either 6 or 7 spd, and again, improving both acceleration and mph (overall better power transimissivity efficiency).
Dodge's Durango and BMW's X5 are soon going to use the two mode hybrid transmission co-developed with GM. I still have faith in the full size truck segment; they are finally getting the hint that something needs to be done about efficiency.
I believe Nissan is going to do some tuning to the Titan's auto also, to improve the truck's fuel economy. Altering converter lockup logic is what I've heard so far.
