Just wondering how good of reception can be expected. This summer we put an old 13" TV in the travel trailer but reception was not very good. We normally camp in state parks. Am wondering if a newer TV would get better reception. We could only get 1 channel and that was usually not very clear. Don't really want to spend the money on a new TV if we won't get any better reception. What has been your experience?

Take the TV in the house and see how it works there. If it is good there them you may have an antenna problem in the trailer. If the TV works well at home with the trailer antenna then it is lack of signal at the campground. Our experience is that many campgrounds not near a city with TV stations reception is limited. Good luck.

While you're travelling test the TV in a known good reception area with trailer's antenna. The Winegard antenna has an amplifier which can be switched on/off. The antenna signal is weak when the amp is switched off. Switch the amp off when using cable hookup.

In a good or moderate signal area the antenna should work very well.

Many canyons or out of the way campgrounds don't have much in the way of over the air TV signal.

I've found the new digital TV works very well with the built in Winegard antenna. Often a snowy analog picture will look very clear on the digital channel equivalent. That is till the point it fails altogether.

You will find that reception will vary from location to location as well as day to day depending on the weather. That being said, the reception will generally be crappy regardless of where you are.

We purchased a cheap DVD player and download 10 or 20 new release movies off the internet prior to going out. That coupled with the Playstation 3 makes the rainy days far more tolerable.

The only practical use for that pistol is to fight your way back to the rifle you should not have dropped in the first place.

Reception will vary greatly. To those that have grown up with cable and satellite access, relying on antenna based reception is a real challenge. I'm old enough to remember when we were lucky to get 3 channels.....and that's what happens when camping.

So....we travel with a lot of DVDs for those evenings where television reception is limited or not available at all.

TV picture is line of sight so trees and hills will impare video quality.Compounded by the distance from the tower.

Many local stations have already begun the conversion over to digital signals. If your old set is analog, it will not receive digital signals well at all. Usually, a digital signal converter takes care of the problem.

We have always had good luck with our TV and the number of channels we receive guess we have been lucky. The Winegard antenna seems to always pickup few channels that we can watch. Just make sure that the switch to the amp is on I have forgotten it a couple of time.

Don't rule out a bad antenna. Winegard qmplified antennas have a power supply that feeds 12 volts to the antenna through the cable. My antenna was bad. It was less than $100 to replace. There is a diagnosing procedure in the back of the manual HERE to check yours out.

I use mine occasionally, and it works very well... when I say very well that is compared to others that are using a antenna... although I may get 6 or 8 channels 3 or 4 of them may be the same programming, from surrounding towns...
