I thought I found the right TV. I went today to test drive a new Dodge after all the great posts here and a couple of friends.

I have been looking for a Long Bed, Crew Cab, 4X4.

I get in the back of the "crew cab" and my knees hit and the bench seat is too short. I am told that I need Mega if I stay with Dodge, but Mega it does not come in Long Box.

I really liked the way it drove and handled.

However, I commonly have three other adults with me so I dont want them to be cramped in the back.

Chevy drivers: are they real Crew Cabs? Any problems with late model Duramax?

Ford drivers: I had a 97 PSD which I assume is nothing like the 6.0s I have read about here. What Fords could I buy and not have this problem.

I dont care much about the brand...but I do care that I am going to spend a ton of dough, so I should get what I want: Comfortable seating (plush, maybe leather) Long Bed, 4X$ and pull my TT up a phone pole.

Your suggestions appreciated.

Well, if a crew cab and diesel are the only way to go, I'd look at the GMC. I don't like the Chevy look, but that D-max and their crew are awesome. I love the Ford gassers, but the new diesel is yet to be tried and true.

I've heard alot of good things, but who knows. Check out the GMC.

You see, there's your problem, the ram quadcab is not a crewcab, the megacab is. You can't expect crewcab space in a forward hinged extended cab. Why is it so many people keep thinking it's a crewcab. I also see you mentioning diesel's in so I assuming you'r looking at 3/4-1ton class, I'm surprised they don't have a 8' on the HD rams megacab. I thought I saw one just the other day, maybe it wasn't then.

The International 6.0 Powerstroke engine is history. The new 6.4 is looking much better than the first year for the 6.0.

And, the Duramax is an excellent engine. Work a GMC dealership against a Chev dealership for the best price.

I'm free of prostate cancer for 5 years now.
All men over age 50 should get an annual PSA blood test. Mine had a low reading, but the yearly jump was significant. The biopsy showed cancer just entering the aggressive stage. Dr. Hackenslash removed it.

I am happy with my 6.0. The 6.4 is basically the same engine with more displacement and improvements. I have 56K on mine so far.

My friend has both 6.0 and 6.4L PSD. He has 3 6.0Ls and 1 6.4L(he and his brothers are in cahoots for European car tuning company and farms. Out of 4 6.0Ls one was bad. The 6.4L has 15,000miles on it has been pulling a trailer for all of them almost. But those GM with the Allison Transmission you really can't beat the transmission. For reference, the Cummins pulls DIFFERENT then the two V8 diesel power plants, not better.

If I needed a diesel with back seat leg room and a long bed I would buy a new Ford in a heartbeat. Mechanically I trust Ford's new diesel and both of the other diesel offerings can't touch the Ford interior.

i will give you my oponion for what it is worth. i like the gmc sierra extended cab but maybe you would like a full crew cab better. i am like you i want a eight foot bed tobe able to haul things in it. my duramax is awesome as well as the allison which i think can not be beat. rember allison has been making automatic transmissions for a long time in everything from pickups up to earth moveing equipment. i haave owned cummings and no longer do so. ford has left me stranded along the haul road in alaska both summer and winter so i drive a gmc.

The 6 Speed in the GM's are great. When I test drove a SB 2500 Dmax it was quiet and comfortable. Although I will say the new interior in the F series is really nice. For comfort dont take anyone elses word but your own butts. As for room both the GM and the Ford CC will have plenty of room for driver and passengers to sit without touching the back of the seats. Good luck in whatever you get.

Not all of the 6.0 engines were bad. Many of the problems resulted from the owner's stupidity in chipping the engine a la "Tim Taylor" for that "ARRR ARRR ARRR MORE POWER" experience. The 6.0 engine, in its stock configuration, is already working above the original design limit for the VT365 International engine on which it is based (the 6.0 PowerStroke is a VT365 with Ford engine management and fuel systems) Add a chip, and you see blown head gaskets, warped heads, oil leaks, and people complaining about what a piece of junk the engine is.

My 6.0 is bone stock, pulls like a Clydesdale, and gets 18 miles per gallon city, 22 highway, and 13 towing the fiver. Coupled with the TorqShift transmission, I believe it is the equal, and in some ways superior, to the Duramax/Allison combination, which I also admire.

For the most interior space and creature comforts, you can't beat a Ford. Find a 05 through 07, get an OASIS report from the dealer to know the vehicle's history, and if you find one with a good history, BUY IT. Or if you have the coin, get a new 08. The weenie roast exhaust option (found on only THREE trucks) is no longer available.
