We will be travelling through Atlanta on I-75 after Christmas on our way to Florida. We would like to stop in Atlanta for a couple days to visit the aquarium.
Assumption: We don't want to take our entire rig downtown to the aquarium, parking will most likely be limited...correct??
Does anyone have campground recommendations just off of I-75 we can base ourselves from and drive the dinghy into Atlanta to the aquarium? Atlanta South RV resort will be open I was wondering if anyone in familiar with this place and are there are other options?

Hi Punkin, about 30 minutes north of Atlanta is Red Top Mountain State Park. A bit of a drive into town, but a beautiful place with lots of wildlife (deer)

I always stay @ McKinney COE park outside of Acworth, GA (north of Atlanta).
It's closer than Red Top Mt and very nice.

Brookwood RV Park in Marietta is only about a mile off I-75. For your purposes, it's the closest. Atlanta South would take much longer.

Brookwood is VERY expensive. You can rent a motel room cheaper! Your best bet is Twin Lakes RV Park in Cumming. Its several miles off GA Hwy 400, one of Atlanta's feeeway system, and then about a 20 minute drive(35 in rush hour) to MARTA, the rapid rail system. That's the only way to go in Atlanta. Be prepared for mega traffic jams!

South of Atlanta is High Falls SP just off of I 75 and a nice place. May be a bit far for a day trip back to Atlanta.

Atlanta South is OK for overnight and can be a bit tight and is N of McDonough a place of major traffic tie ups. Lot of long term campers there also but we manage in our 40'.
High Falls W/E has a large rig section ask for it. The East End of the Campground is not suitable for big rigs as there is a hard steep right access road.

You could check out Stone Mountain. There is a fairly decent campground there, and it's just a short distance from the perimeter.

Our son and family live in the city and we always stay at Stone Mtn. About 20 min and we are in the city. Campground is fairly nice and the park is lovely.
