The wife and I are finally doing it. We are picking up roots in Ohio and heading south to Florida to retire. We are going to live in the MH at an RV Resort for right now. Just wondering once I finally take up residency, how does Florida charge for liscense fees on the MH. It is a 1992 36' Safari (not that would matter), or would it be better to maintain my residency in Ohio. We plan on staying the winter months in Florida and traveling around this wonderful country in the summer. Any ideas.

Slightly off Topic

You should consider homesteading in Florida. Much lower property tax and NO Income Tax.

I know that Florida has no Income tax, but not sure about this homesteading. Do you have to take up a state residence or what?

Only if you have real property can you homestead. Registration fees are based on weight, I would guess around $60 a year. Check your insurance rates, they may be slightly higher down here.

I have a 1996 Safari Sahara. I think that the Florida registration is about $60.00 Florida has cheap registration, no personal property tax on RVs and if you claim a residence area in North Florida, rural areas, insurance is not bad. I live near Daytona Beach. My RV policy is $175.00 per year. Just liability.

Welcome to Florida. Enjoy the weather. Use Sir and M'am when addressing others. Don't be in a hurry. And remember, no one wants to hear how they do things up north.

We live in FL and have two cousins from Ohio that have park models in FL. One changed residences to get away from the Ohio income tax. To be a FL resident all you really need is a FL address and you can register to vote in FL.

To register a vehicle or motorhome that you have owned over six months includes a $95.00 impact fee plus tag and transfer fees and a SN verification by a law enforcement office (may be a $3 to $5 fee) or notary public certification. Then you pay an annual tag fee of $40 to $60. Total under $180 the first year.

You do have to acknowledge that the Gators beat the Buckeyes for the national championship in basketball and football and be happy about it. Of course you can root for the Buckeyes this year as no Florida team is in the running and they are.
