excuse my lower case, my arm is in a sling. my husband and i have found nirvana. it is ryderwood, washington. very nice 55 plus community where you can own a cozy home for a reasonable cost and you can rv for six months a year and live in a stick house the other six months. we pay $950 property tax a year, no income tax and shop in oregon with no sales tax. we have lived here over two years and we are happy as clams. nice community for hiking with your dog, bicycle riding, walking by the little lake, making good friends. we are a community of a little over 400 people out in the country, about 30 miles from a city.

I am in a fairly unique tax situation, in that I don't own any real property, my old truck/camper isn't worth much, and I only have a $1100 a month pension so I assume a state income tax is minimal. You would need to contact the state of Oregon about your paticular tax status, but I doubt that there would be any state taxes owed. If there was it would probably be less than a hundred dollars a year.I realized my greatest state tax burden is the daily tax I pay on goods and services. Oregon has no tax on goods and services and I am planning on spending a fair amount of time there. Not entirely true. If you are paying for an RV site there is a county room tax. Yea, I know you own your own room, but it is tacked onto the hotel motel room tax base.I am thinking of summers on the Oregon coast because of the mild temps (I don't like heat!) Any thoughts on that idea, too much traffic, too much rain?Oregon coast summer does not officially start until middle of July. RV parks can be expensive and crowded during the summer. Are you thinking about work camping or something to supplement your income?
So my questions are about Oregon residency. Does it have a state-wide vehicle inspecion? No! Emission testing is currently in the Portland metro area, Eugene and maybe Medford?Does that include emissions inspection? Are there good mail-forwarding companies that will help with license renewal etc.? Do a web search for Oregon mail forewarding services and you should get some hits. Any chance of getting out of jury duty like SD? Sure, people over the age of 72? I think are exempt and if you are younger than that, simply tell them you are not home and will not be home for 6 months if you get a summons.
I have heard that Oregon is antagonistic toward non-resident RV fulltimers. Any truth to that? Thanks for all the help!Lived here all my life and the only people that I have problems with are the arrogant ones that move here and then try to change our rural lifestyle to the same one that they left. If you have Oregon plates how are they going to know where you originally were from? As long as you learn to pronounce our name correctly you will fit in just fine. Stay away from the metro areas and even the liberal mentality will not effect you much.

You don't have to be a resident to not pay a sales tax. I live in Washington and years ago went down to Portland to purchase a pellet stove. There just is no sales tax no matter where you are from. No sales tax in Washington, either, for Oregon residents. I don't know if any of the other bordering states tax Oregon residents.
