What kind of brake controller does everyone recommend when towing the heavier 5th wheel toyhaulers?

You'll have no complaints with a Prodigy by Tekonsha.

BrakeSmart is the best in my opinion and many more on here. Do some research and decide for yourself but I would never skimp on an item as important as your brake controller.

My preference is the Jordan 2020 Ultima. It utilizes a direct connection to the brake pedal arm via a flexible cable. No inertia devices and no delay in trailer braking.

Depends what you want to spend. I use the Tekonsha Prodigy and am perfectly happy with the performance. I looked at Brakesmart but didn't want to spend the extra money.

Jordan Ultima has a very solid reputation too.

I picked up a Tekonsha Primus on eBay a few months back for only $45, brand new.

I've been very pleased with it - a major upgrade from an older inertial unit it replaced. I pulled a tri axle float (about 12500# loaded) a few weeks back an once it was dialed in it was excellent.

It uses the same technology as Tekonsha's high end controllers but without the auto orientation feature which keeps the cost down.

Great bang for the buck.

I am using a Tekonsha P3 which is the next generator of the Prodigy. It will tow either electric or electric over hydraulic brakes. It is not much more than the Prodigy and worth the difference.

Brakesmart nothing better....not even the factory installed controllers. Had the Ford, Brakesmart is better.

I have used the Voyager, Sentinal and Prodigy prior to the BrakeSmart. BrakeSmart wins hands down. It is so smooth, you don't even feel the trailer behind you. Your tow vehicle and trailer brakes are perfectly synchronized with each other. Given the price of my rig, the BrakeSmart was a steal.
