My Bro-in-law has a 2005 TTR-250 and seems to like it except for the weight, a little on the heavy side. I have ridden it and feel it is a little heavy and under powered. It is a great trail bike.

We had gotten our son a TTR-125 and he is 14. Excellent bike and I would believe that the 250 should be fine too. I have ridden his 125 (I'm 250lbs) and it moves me around pretty good so the 250 should work for you. A friend of mine has a TTR-250 and he loves it.

I really want it to play on but mostly to chase my kids down when they crash on theirs. Trail riding would be fine for me. Not going to be hitting any ramps. I found an 05 in new condition for 2800 dollars.

We all have TTR-230'S a bit heavy for myself & son but not for husband he should have went with a bigger bike but he thinks the TTR-125'S we outgrew in 1 year were fine! LOL
I would think that size would be just fine! in a year our son will outgrow his 230 but I dont think we will, Since we are a bit older.

We have a TTR 90 and a 125 and see many of them in the areas we ride. I have looked at the 250 for myself but not sure if I want to start riding dirtbikes again. Our TTR's have been bullet proof although the 125 is sometimes very difficult to start when it is below 50 degrees. How you plan to ride it is a very critical issue as I think the suspension will not be robust enough for jumping etc...; however, if you plan to only do trail riding than it should be fine. My 12 year old complains his 125 is bottoming out but that is also on a track not too far from our house.

I guess some of you guys don't ride as hard "trail riding" as I do. I want the best suspension and handling I can get. With that said, I would look at a WR 250.

Definitely a trail bike. I'm replacing the fork seals in my son's TTR230 for the second time in one year. Nice bike but he has outgrown it and rides too hard for the TTR. I will probably sell it sometime during this season and move him onto a WR250 or 450. Nothing wrong with the TTR for trail riding. If you are just cruising the trails and following your kids you should be very pleased with the bike.

If you are just going to cruise trails it will be fine. It is not anything like a 230, the 250 is much taller. If you are a more aggressive type rider, look at a WR250.
