Would like to visit the Everglades while still in Florida, are there first come first served Campgrounds on 41? Cannot get reservations at Collier-Seminole.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Yes there are 2, Monument lake and Midway. Midway has electric and a dump station. Monument lake is dry. They are actually in the Big Cypress swamp right on US41.
Yes as mentioned above and Everglades City might have a few openings in some of the commercial campsites from fish camp type to http://www.outdoor-resorts.com/ has a 10 star one.
Richard and Babs and a Bob Tail Cat

Toad 04 Durango HEMI
There is also a "rustic" commercial campground on 41 a few miles east of Port of the Islands..... here's a story about the place and the contact info ----->Skunk Ape
I haven't stayed there , but did stop in a few years ago and talked to the owner and drove thru the CG.
I will be overnighing at Midway next week.... it's first come/first serverd.... $19/night and self registration-- drop the money in the "iron ranger". Last time I was there, there were 2 other campers so there was plenty of space

All the "fish camp" places in Everglades City have been sold for Condo projects and a $500,000/lot Condo RV park.
ORA on Chokoloskee Island has rental spots that start at about $85/night. From January first through March, better have reservations made months in advance. The phone number for the rental office is 239-695-2881.
Here is a LINK to another post about ORA with my detailed description of the park.

We arrived at Midway early in the afternoon last Feb. and took the last available site. Plan B would have been Monument, which is dry and probably doesn't fill as fast. We liked it and stayed a few extra days just to take it all in. Can't remember for sure, but I think the Golden Age card worked there for 50% off.
