Ok, for all you experienced TT'ers, please help a new-comer out.

Planning a trip to Alaska next spring and need to know what are the really "must have" items to take along.

During that time of year i'm thinking it's "day-light" most of the time and should I really special items.
What about a weapon, etc.
Give me all you got. Thanks

Hi,
We have a special forum for RVing in Alaska and Canada. The Alaska forum is here.
You can ask the moderator to move this post there. Do not post the same question there though, as we have a rule about double posting.

One thing I wonder about. You will have to go through Canada to get there and I don't think Canada will allow you to bring any kind of weapon into the country. You might want to ask a question about that in the Canada forum.
Good luck with your trip! By the way, we spent last winter in your neck of the woods. January and February in SanAntonio, and March up in Kerrville. Beautiful country except for the snow and ice in January!

Well, a new passport will help because you may get out to Canada but not back in to USA without everything updated to required documentation. Spare tires, more than one, communication system that works all the way up and back, cash for non credit/debt stores, paint chip panels to save finish from road fatigue, plan for fuel stops, insurance that covers you out of country, and a good Texas country western CD or twelve.

We went there in June of 2007. I found out when I got to Alaska that the MasterCard that I used charged a Foreign Transaction Fee. I found this out when I got to Fairbanks while checking my account. I had a Visa and found out that they did not charge the fee. Most cards charge a flat fee of 3% of all sales charged on that card in Canada. You might call your card holder to find out what their policy is.

Have fun!

Other than a passport the things you need for an Alaska trip are no different than for an extended trip elsewhere in the US. You might find yourself taking more pictures than normal so be prepared for that. If you need more of anything you can buy it there.

Good post, I also agree. Watch out for frost heaves, they will jump up and bite you in the butt... When going through a gravel construction section, ( and you will) stay WAY back from the rig in front of you. Even if being taken through by a flagger.
