I would like to know what gears I have in my TV. It is a 1998 Dodge 1500, 4x4, club cab, 5.9 Lt 360. if you have any ideas or know the easiest way to find out I would love to hear.

A dealer should be able to help by using the vin number. Another way would be to jack the rear end up and turn the rear wheel and count the rotations it takes to turn the drive shaft one revolution.

There might also be a tag on the rear differential.

dodge 1/2 tons are either 3:55 or 3:92, some years had a tag in the glovebox. if not check the rear for a tag...the other would be to have the dealer look up the vin as someone said already.

You can also do it the old fashion way - jack it up, mark the tire and the drivshaft at notable points. Turn the tire and count how many time the mark on the axle rotates past - stop turning the tire when you have returned to your maked point. The next part is a little bit of a guess, but if the mark ont eh axle is on the oppsite side of where it started, then that would be about 50% and if the mark rotated by a total of 3 complete times, then probably have a 3.55 rear end. If the mark stopped 3/4 if the way from the starting point, then you would have a 3.73. That how the axles are rated #.## for the axle rotation (3.73:1) and 1 for the tire rotation ... got the idea? You may not get it exact, but it would be close enough.

Yep, there will be a tag on the rear end cover bolt or on a tag in the glove box door. 3.55 was standard and the 3.90 was optional. if you ordered the off road pkg. you got the 4.10!

I agree with 3:55 or 3:92 the tag on rear axle will have either 3.5 or 3.9 stamped on it for the respective gear. I would br willing to bet a dollar to a donut that your gear ratio would be the 3:55's as they were the most popular gears and what most dealers ordered. JMHO
