Hi, my son is thinking of camping for eight weeks in this area as he will be going to school there for the faa. I am wondering what the weather is like in December and January for that part of the country and will he need heat? Can you suggest any good parks that he could camp at in a pop up. He is a only 23 and it will be him by himself. I don't really think he will be looking for the attractions just a clean place with clean bathrooms and safe. Any ideas will be appreciated.

You can check the weather stats out here: http://www.city-data.com/city/Oklahoma-City-Oklahoma.html.

Can be a bit chilly for a pop-up that time of year.

The closest RV park to FAA I know of is Roadrunner. See at http://roadrunnerparkrv.com/.

The weather will, probably, be very cold at times. Last January we had an Ice Storm which had things screwed up for a while, temps in the teens, and after that, temps in the 60's. Cold weather lingered, on and off, through February, and a little in March. We usually have a few days of single digit temps during the winter, mixed in with temps in the 70s. He will definitely need heat.

As far as campgrounds, since I live in the area, I've not camped in any of them, but check out the rvparksreviews.com, or something close to that. There is one close to the FAA center on Council Road, or Rockwell, and that's in their name. Also, I've heard good things about Roadrunner RV Park on I-35, but haven't even driven through it. There is also a new one in OKC, Twin Fountains, which I've driven through, and think that it is one of the nicest I've seen in our 5 years of intense rving. It's on one of the expressways which makes the drive to the FAA center convenient, about 20 minutes in rush hour traffic.

I'm sure some other Okies will pitch in with their experiences with these places.

Yes he will need heat, and lots of it. It can get cold in Jan and Feb, IMO too cold for a popup.

Thank you all very much. I guess his idea about staying in the pop up is out.

I started to let this slide by but will offer the following.

We can have really cold weather here. I would not camp in a pop up.
Check with FAA, I believe they have transient housing in OKC. Seems to me they own an apartment building. May be you could get a good rate for a couple of months.

I agree that Twin Fountains is the nicest park in the Oklahoma City Area. We stayed at Twin Fountains during a Dog Show in Oklahoma City. The staff was very courteous, helpful and had a wealth of information on the OKC area. However, a pop-up in Jan/Feb time frame would be out of the question.
