It better not damage the king pin. If it does just hanging there what'll happen going down the road?

Mine has been hanging on the pin box for two years solid now and the front of the trailer hasn't dipped any at all! I put a lock thru the latching device and no one will steal it.

Cruz, could you post some pictures of the hoist and the way you bolted it to the bed of your truck? This is something I have been thinking of doing for a while and I would like to see what hoist and how you did it. I sure would appreciate it.

Pretty much like this one at Harbor freight.

Truck Bed Hoist

I swear the one I have is a little shorter, but still taller then the side rails. The post slides right off the lower mount and lays down in the bed when not in use.

I got (3) 6 x 6 post and made a frame with a winch in the center and back my truck under the frame and winch my hitch out of the truck.

Frank - came back to this one.
IMO - still have "reservations" about hanging anything as heavy
as a SG from the pin - - not because it would damage the trlr or
pin box, but the top of the hitch wasn't intended for that.
Be interesting to hear what PullRite says.

Another IMO - kinda like the control I have with
a "dedicated" lifting device that has some "swing" & movement
to align the pins, etc.

But, in any case - be careful of "Murphy"!!
See "Duke-44"s tail of woe - or is that "toe of woe" -
back on page 2.

I use a old come a long that lifts it out of the truck bed. It hangs in the tractor shed with a BBQ cover over it. I use velcro to close the open end of the cover. Keeps the dust/dirt from collecting on the lubed parts (slider) and the dab blasted mud daubers out. I've tried leaving the hitch hung from the pin but can't keep the daubers out or protected from dust/dirt.

Taken from the Superglide Owners Manual FAQ's

"Can I leave the hitch attached to my trailer and use the trailer jacks to lift the hitch
out of the truck?

Yes, you can use the trailer jacks to lift the hitch out of the truck. The hitch should not
however be left hanging from the king pin. Once you have the hitch lifted out of the truck
you should have a stand available to lower the hitch onto for storage
."

I would think the only reason they do not approve storage on the pin is safety, I do it sometimes but always lock the release handle before removal and only unlock after reinstall

In all the years I have been doing the "hanging" thing with my hitch, I have never had a problem while hanging or using it after. The weight of the hitch itself is not enough to bend anything. I have picked the whole hitch up and put it the bed of my truck and it ain't that heavy. But I also pick up my Coleman 3500 watt genset and put it the truck too. If SuperGLide has a problem, I think I would use some other hitch.
