A while back a crane operator where I am employed said that the truck that he pulls behind his crane when going to different work sites is left running, in neutral, with the heater on high to dissipate the heat. The truck was a full size 2004 ford f-150. What do you all think of this method of pulling whatever car you have? He said he has pulled the truck about 75000 miles with no transmission trouble.
Probably tows just fine but running an engine at idle for that long will wear down the rings pretty quick. Did he mention how much oil he burns in an average 3500-4000 mile oil change cycle ?

He didn't say how much oil he had used but he acted like it was no problem to him at all. All the miles idling would be hot miles so it probably doesn't hurt the engine. Oil is still moving everwhere.
