What is your set up with a SRW Ford and Arctic Fox 811,860. or 990. Lance 861 or similar TC.
I have a 06 SD CC SRW with the FX4 package. No factory overload just the Firestone 5K airbags with in cab controller, I have E rated 17 in Tires.
I get a little sway on side streets and Interstate when a truck passes ect. Not uncomfortable and stable but sway nonetheless. You can push on the camper and move it. Doesn't look like it is coming form the tires. just the springs.
Looking at either shocks or Super Springs.
Shocks...
Bilstein or Ranchos
Bilstien are self adjusting and 260 for a set.
Ranchos are manual adjusting can this be done easily on the driver side with the frame infront of the shock. There 111.00 a piece and do you need them on the front also.

Super Springs how do they do at sway Or do they just carry the load like the airbags. Can they be used with the airbags.

Please let me know about your set up and how it handles the sway. This is my first TC and I know some sway is the nature of the best but how much can I do.

I also need a Stinger Hitch about 36 to 38 inches but Not sure I need a SuperHitch at 1000 bucks I will be towing a boat. I have a Class 4 hitch.

I would like as much info as possible, So if your set up is here please post yours to.\
Thanks AF1

Sorry so long

With mine... shocks didn't really help all that much with sway... They helped in other ways! Rear swaybar ... and then tires ... were the things that helped eliminate sway for me.

With the FX4 package you have pretty good shocks already. Suprising to me, I'm quite impressed with the new rancho's. They work better "so far" than the former series that I tried. It is really nice to set them soft in the rear when empty as it is very noticable! The automatic claim ... it's not quite the same... very much like your current package shocks. So, if your fronts seem ok... I'd vote leave them and think about rear adjustables.

Do you have the sway bar???

I have the camper package, then added Air Ride Bags (cab controller), with Rancho shocks on all four.

Don't have any problems.

I added a Hellwig sway bar and it made a HUGE difference. I have the factory shocks still on because they only have 11,000miles on them. I have thought about replacing them with aftermarket's someday. I'm fairly comfortable going down the road in mine, not sure if you have a 3/4 ton or 1 ton, but us 3/4 toners are on the upper limits for these trucks.

I have the factory installed sway bar. Looks like they get thinner when they turn up to connect to the frame. They arn't thick all the way around like hellwig.
Thanks AF1
Oh yea its a 3/4 ton truck. I have checked and the only different between the 3/4 and 1 ton is the factory overload spring. The brakes and rotors, Motor Tany etc are all the same.

Arcticfox1,

I've got an 07 Ford SB CC PSD FX4 King Ranch 4x4 with the camper certification and carry an 05 AF 860.

Mods include replacing the stock overload springs with an aftermarket four leaf pack rated at 2500 lbs. and a one inch spacer between the overloads and the main springs. The spacer was placed there so the overloads come into play sooner. A local spring shop did the work at a cost of $360. I chose not to do air bags because I don't care for them and feel the overload springs are a better choice, just my 2 cents. I also have 19.5's and love the way they handle the weight.

The only time I have any sway is when we pull into a parking lot and it is a bare minimum.

I don't feel changing the shocks is the answer because my stock Rancho's work fine, It's gotta be your Air Bags and Stock Overloads combo. My guess is the air bags are not letting the overloads come into play thus cousing the sway problem.

Good luck with your problem.

AF1, very nice looking rig you have...But a 1 ton has quite a bit higher GVW then a 3/4ton has. Check your GVW and I bet your 1000- 1500lbs over it.

Hi, I've got a Dodge 2500 srw ctd,8ft bed, with a Lance 835, which is loaded, and in a little over 3000 miles, the highway sway is still apparent when you are passed, or with a crosswind, and I've found that it is less of a FACTOR WHEN YOU AIR DOWN TO BETWEEN 65-80 PSI, WHICH IS THE POINT WHERE THE HEADLIGHTS ARE AIMED ON THE INSPECTION BOARD, and at that point, the suspension is less stiff, and the swayis less apparent. Works for me, but it may be worth a try on your Artic Fox.

Carter may be on to something, When I 1st got my camper I was putting to much air in the bags, I droped them down to 50psi on left and 60 on right(slide side) with that the overloads are just touching.
