RichnLinda wrote: John, I have lived and worked in Nv. most of my life and the only free thanksgiving dinner I got was under new managment at the casion I worked in and you had to work that day to get it. That was in Elko Nv. Maybe they are just cheap.
Sounds like they might be ...
Here is Carson City there are two casinos, The Carson Nugget and the Horseshoe Club, that give away free holiday dinners... there used to be three but Cactus Jack's Casino sold out to a big conglomerate and stopped supporting our community... Typical big business attitude..
I have not been to Reno in several years, (except for doctor's appointments) but I think that there are still a couple of casinos there that give away free holiday meals.
Down in Gardnerville the old "Sharkey's Casino used to give out free meals during the holidays, but since it also changed hands a few years ago, I'm not sure anymore.
I have been told that the El Capitan Casino down in Hawthorne also does the free meal thing.. but I don't know personally.
So RICH and LINDA, if you would like to share in the free Thanksgiving meals,,come on over to Carson City and join the "Thong" of people who stand in line for as much as an hour to get their freebee.. it's really an excellent meal...

TWO CENTS WORTH
The story goes that a man died and was approached by the Devil who told him that he could buy his soul back for a dollar. The man searched his pockets and could only come up with 98 cent. While begging the Devil to forget the two cent he was short, an Angel happened by and hearing the Devil laughing, asked the man, "Would you mind if I put in my two cents ?" The Devil got so mad that he exploded in a puff of smoke and the man's soul was saved.
The moral: Sometimes putting in your two cents worth makes a difference.

Don't think I've ever done Restaurant...
I took over Thanksgiving 20 years ago - my Mother hasn't looked back!
I enjoy big meals and hosting family - of course it's kind of our winter balance to our summer family camps.
We do Christmas at our folks house every year. My Dad was quite ill some years ago and asked that from that time forward we have Christmas on Christmas at their house. We've obliged since then.

Last year we went to my BIL's condo in Orange Park, AL. While we did eat in, we bought everything already cooked. This year we are staying home and are only having Thanksgiving with two of DW's children. I asked her if she wanted to go out and she said NO!!.
Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and keep on camping.

We've done the Safeway turkey dinner a time to two and it worked out ok for us. I've yet to actually eat out for T-day but I've worked the last 25 turkey days so I'm happy just to eat somewhere.

My youngest and I had thought about it this year as the eldest (who normally cooks and insists we attend) at the last minute (Monday) said she and family were eating with friends. So we were going to do a 'different TG' (even mentioned having crabs vs. Turkey)..then, Wednesday morning I got the call that eldest was cooking and we were invited. So, we will do the family thing. But, next year will be different - youngest is married to the military, and will be living about 4-5 hours away, so I might do TG in the camper at a campground about 1/2 way between! If everything is done the day before - it's not too stressful and it's easy to clean up. I've got a portable oven, with a divided heating section, so the turkey and all can be done with ease.

Once (many years ago) we weren't able to have Thanksgiving with family, so we took the kids to a cafeteria with friends for dinner. The meal was good and it was great to not have a mess to clean up, but DH absolutely HATED not having leftover turkey and dressing--that was our first and (probably) LAST holiday meal in a restaurant!
