I have a friend who is running Windows XP. When he tries to launch IE, the hr glass comes up for a few seconds and then disappears. All other programs work fine and so does outlook. Any ideas? He has tried going to all links to the program and it won't run.
Thanks

I had the same kind of problems for years. Once I switched to firefox, 99% of these problems went away. works better, faster and does more to boot. I wouldn't waste anymore time with Internet Explorer, unless of course it was the only way I had to download firefox.

Here's an article on how to repair and reinstall Internet Explorer. The options depend on where you have SP1 or SP2 (Service Packs) installed. Also are you using XP Professional or Home Edition? The "sfc /scannow" is a great tool to use. Good luck.

I had about the same problem a couple weeks ago. It would open on a site then lock up but e-mail was ok. I finally had to run "system recovery" to get Explorer to work again.... Good luck..

See this help article here. One thing that is missing is that the install you must reboot.
Make sure that he has kept his computer updated and that he has a good anti-virus program running
Good Luck

I'd say some kind of virus, everybody writes code to shut down IE. My FIL had a bug that made his PC dial overseas about 9 times, needless to say he had a heck of a time getting the $160 off his phone bill.

IE won't open? Sounds like a good thing to me!
Try reinstalling it if you insist on using it...better yet install Firefox and forget your IE headaches.

I'm not sure why IE refusing to open is a bad thing. Load Firefox and don't worry about it..

I used to have similar problems with IE, but as soon as I switched to Firefox I had whiter whites and brilliant colors in my wash loads. OOPS, lost my train of thought. Step up to Firefox. IE is so old school.
