Long time lurker, first time poster.

Have gleaned much knowledge from many searches and would like to thank all who take the time to share their experience in this forum.

Nearing the border at Lukeville/Sonoyta for maiden voyage with 47 feet and @23,000 lbs of rig (truck/5er). Currently at Emerald Cove/Parker AZ. First destination will be Bahia De Kino.

My Question: I've come across at least 2 versions of the 'Periferico' and would like to get some clarification. It seems some use the Periferico Sur, and go ALL the way around Hermosillo, and others, the Periferico Norte, (is this the 'mine' road that Moisheh referred to?) I have looked at Turtle and Toad's site and the Bells and am still unclear.

If someone (Moisheh, you out there?) could give me the easiest southbound route with a few landmarks, Pemex #'s I'd be most appreciative.

Y, algun dia, compartiremos una copa. Compraré, por supuesto. -Delfin

Southbound, follow the Bell's map for Perferico Sur. They show Pemex station numbers. Keep your head up and watch the trucks.

The only two tricks are to stay to the left into town and again when you turn back onto 15. There are signs.

If you're traveling southbound to Kino you need to use the Mine Road route that I described.

It's the first right turn after going through the toll booths north of Hermosilla.

After making the right, you will travel over a small pass in the hills. The when you come out of the hills you will come to a row of high power lines. Turn left on the road that follows the power lines. From here it's a straight shot to the Kino highway, SON-100 if you want to stop at Wal-Mart first. Which is just before the SON-100 intersection. I don't remember the street names.

There is more to the shortcut that is supposed to bypass the traffic around Wal-Mart that involves heading for the airport but I've never used it so we will have to wait for Moisheh or someone else to clue us in on that.

Turtle-Toad's route is the preferred route. Have taken both and the Western By-Pass is the easier with the best roads. But, DO NOT SPEED!

Ooops, just saw you are going to Kino first. Yep, you don't want the Sur route.

When you follow the power lines you will be heading South. I don't know the e exact distance but you will see a Soriana on your left and a Famsa store on your right. This is at the first red light. Turn right on this road and follow until you dead end at a huge scrap metal yard. Orange in color called Castellanos. Turn left and follow this road. You will pass a housing development, Super Del Norte store and a cemetery. As son as you notice that this is an industrial park stay to the right. After this the first red light you hit will be the road to Kino ( airport as well). It is a divided multi lane road. Turn right and you are done. I am sorry I dont have exact km. This last intersection was a dead end until they built a new road this spring. My route will nOT take you to Wal Mart but it will avoid ahorrible street with holes and dips and lots of traffic. Another warning for anyone going to KIno/Hermosillo. The intersection of Solidaridad and Encinas is where there is a Soriana and the Ley Saguaro store. This is under construction for 2 years as they are building an underpass. It is a ZOO. Avoid this area like the plague.

A bit more detail about the Hermosillo bypass ...

The "mine" road is signed "Mina Pilares," and the right turn is immediately south of the Hermosillo toll station. From Hwy 15 it's 5.2 miles over to the powerline road. That road becomes Blvd Solidaridad when you reach the city, and it's 4.2 miles to the Soriana. The road at Soriana is Blvd Progreso. From there you can either turn right for the western bypass, or continue straight toward Wally World. For the western bypass, go 1.9 miles to the end of the road at the scrap yard. Turn left on Blvd Dr A Quiroga and follow that for 3.0 miles to Blvd Luis Encinas, which is the highway to Bahia Kino. Watch your speed through this area. To head toward Wally World, continue south on Blvd Solidaridad through increasingly heavy traffic. Wally World is on your right about 3.2 miles from Progreso. The Ley is just beyond that, and then you hit Blvd Encinas at 3.4 miles. Turn right to head for Bahia Kino.

We came thru Hermosillo yesterday on the way from Rocky Point to San Carlos. We took the other bypass (east) and it was a piece of cake. One concern and a question- are the bridges on route 2 finished and open all the way to Sonoyta? We got on 2 at Caborca and were happy to see the bridges all fixed, as the detours would not be doable in the 39'DP. How about route 2 north from Santa Ana to Sonoyta? Any bridges still out? We'll be running it just before Christmas.

Feliz Navidad!
