There are a couple of riders that have broken many of his records but that shouldn't be, he didn't have computers to figure speed, angle and such for his jumps he used experience, a great and experienced crew that knew his equipment and pure guts. He didn't have specially made bikes but stripped down Harleys with a custom paint job and beefed up suspension and that's about all.
People said he was crazy or had a death wish, I think it was his desire to be the best ever and that he was willing to put his health and even life on the line to prove it. Some said it was ego that drove him and it may have to a small point been so but he was and is the greatest of all time.
Some men (and women) have the drive and the talent to be the best and willingness to make it so, Evel was just such a man.
Rest In Peace and I know you jumped and cleared the pearly gates on your first attempt. It could be no other way.
He was a Hooligan!!!!
He was the King Hooligan, the man we all bow down too..
I'm sure some would argue this next statement, but to me and all of us that grew up watching him. Evel Knievel was a true American Hero..
RIP Evel.. I hope all your pain is gone and you riding and jumping like you use too....

Evel was the original, he influenced many to come behind him. I saw him jump in person in the mid seventies and then finally met him a few years ago. I expected him to be an egotistical jack@$$ but was really surprised. In my time with him, I discovered to him be very much a gentleman, very friendly and personable.
May be a macabre thought, but I wonder what the autographed picture I have of him is worth?

Another one of my 'Heros' is gone. Thanks for making all the jumps, and giving my generation of the 1960's and 1970's a Man to look up to. Miss you already and then some........J

I'll always admire a man who speaks his mind and dances to his own fiddle. You never have to second guess a guy (or gal) like that.
Good on ya Evil, for a life filled with spunk. RIP
