Hi everyone. As I mentioned previously, my wife and I are looking to purchase our first TT within the next 9-12 months. We have 20 month old twin boys, and my first thought is that a bunk house floor plan would make the most sense for the future. I really like the Flagstaff 26BHSS, but the bunks are standard size bunks only (not a full size lower mattress). For those of you with kids, how old were they when you felt comfortable having one of them sleep in the upper bunk?
Our little guys will only be 2 1/2 years old when we purchase our TT, and we obviously won't expect them to be able to be bunkworthy at that young age. With that said, do you think we should still go the bunk route as far as the floor plan in concerned and just have the little guys sleep in their pack-n-plays or on the folding sofa until they come of age? We could also select a floor plan with a rear kitchen or RLS and have the kids share a sofa bed, but that seems like it would get old for them once they hit 4 or 5 years old.
Thoughts?

I have a 4 yo and a 6 year old. Both have slept in the upper bunk (most of the time it is the 6 yo however. I do make her sleep behind the wall with her feet towards the opening, if that makes sense. Would not be hard to make a rail to keep them from falling out. I would say 4 is the youngest I would even consider.

Our littlest was 3 when we got our bunkhouse TT. My neices were even younger when they got theirs and all of them have always slept in their bunks.
We have a rail that just slides under the mattress, but it has been unecessary.
One thing I did was make cute curtains and installed a track on all the bunks. I coordinated each bunk curtain to that individual child so they have their own "room" pullman style. We close their curtains at bedtime and that also keeps talking to a minimum and with the curtain, they seem to stay in their bunks well.
Happy camping!

When we have young children visit us, the upper bunk is their play room and TV watching room during the day, the bottom bunk is their bed at night. We store things on the bottom bunk that are lifted to the top bunk during the night.
When they are old enough to sleep in the top bunk really depends on the child.

Youngest child in the top bunk was DD#2 who was 7 11/12 when we got our trailer.
She is not the one we worried about because DD#1 (other top bunk) is the one who tosses and turns - however no issues yet.

You can always put up a rail for the little ones, but your guys will probably want their own bed by the time they are 25 or so.

The lower bunks on my KZ are at floor level, so rolling off is not an issue. My little guy was just 2 when we got the trailer and he hasn't rolled out yet.

We have a queen up front for mom and dad, and a single high bunk over a lower queen in the back - Our son is 2.5 and there is no way we would put him up there yet, even with one of those rails. He could easily fall over it while trying to climb. Granted he would land on the bottom bunk, but we aren't ready for that yet -- he just graduated from his fully enclosed crib to a 3-sided crib at home, so we use the pack and play for now.
Maybe by next camping season - he will be 3 in March - he will be ready for the bottom queen bed, but I wouldn't think we would put him up top for a while.
To answer your question, I would go with the bunkhouse if you like it - remember that they are only this age today and then they are older tomorrow. Before you know it your little one will be climbing up and down all alone.
Where does my child sleep when we go camping in our RV..... Isn't it great to have to solve these kinds of problems? We are so blessed! ENJOY!

go to a bed and mattress store and get a rail for the upper bunk. They simply slide under the top mattress and the child is pretty safe from falling out in his sleep

We have used a standard bed railing for little ones on our bunk. I would put our granddaughter up there in a few months when she is three, but it depends on the child. She is very coordinated and well behaved. My own daughter would have been older due to her behavior and sleep habits.
