Thanks guys for the ideas. I currently have a F550 w/11' flatbed that I use for work but also to pull my FW (35' Citation) but the kicker is that it's a 2 door. For now it works (overkill) since it's only 3 of us but when we have another kid, then I have to look into some sort of 4 door setup. I can put a 4 wheeler behind the cab now and still pull the camper and I might still consider going this route but I'm not all too pleased with the ride of my rig and also not really thrilled with the new offerings i.e reliability. So far this 6.0 hasn't had too many hickups. I guess I should have worded my question to say is anyone out there running a FL M2 or International 4000 series units out there and do they like them. If you go over to the escapee MDT/HDT sites, they really don't give too much credit to anything under the MDT setups. They say most P/U's are over limit and the 450/550 are just P/U's on steroids. Also I guess I'm just trying to get a feel to see how many are running too the limit or over and how their units are holding up. I run semi's on the farm so I'm familiar with weights and limits. I don't want to spend big bucks on a P/U only to find that I'm pushing it too much and it's unreliable likewise spend much much bigger bucks on a MDT only to find most are running P/U's with no problems. Again thanks for any help. Aaron

My International 4700 does a very good job pulling the KZ. If you look around you can find used MDT's with low miles a lot cheaper than a new dually pickup.
Most of the stuff people worry about ain't never gonna happen anyway.

Also forgot my F550 pulls great but also in order to get that, it's screaming. With 4.88 rears it's turning roughly 2500 rpms going 65mph and loves its fuel. That's fine for awhile but it does get really old after some time. I should also ask is anyone running a similiar setup with some sort of gear vendor? Thanks Aaron

Look at my signature and you'll see our tow truck. For just the truck, click on my profile. It's no longer than the Dodge quad cab (21 ft) and gets about 12 - 14 mpg but needs new injectors. The crew cab is great. Has lots of room in the rear seat for 3 kids and 2 dogs. Much roomier compared to the Dodge. Check into the midsize crew cabs. Not only is the extra room great, but you won't have to worry about being overweight. Our International has the 4.10 rearend and the DT 466. It's a 2001 with 300,000+ miles on it. We have $20K in the truck but we did alot of the work ourselves. Shortened the frame 4 foot after the roolback was removed, put a steel flatbed on it, and make the flatbed dump when not pinned to the frame for towing.

Here is what we upgraded to. Used to have a single rear wheel F350 Diesel with all of the bells and whistles for towing. After a rear wheel tire blowout on the truck which destroyed the bed and then later having a leaf spring shackle peel away from the frame, we got rid of it.

Thanks guys. Your confirming what I've been thinking....that I need to stay with a 450/4500 or higher unit. I was looking at a loaded up 450 the other day and it stickered at 61k.......YIKES!!! I can do without all that and for that kind of money I think I might be better off looking for lightly used Int or FL that I could put a flatbed on that would have more than enough capacity. I also know a guy that can shorten/lengthen the body/frame if I found a truck that had a long WB. That is a sweet rig Bkirkpatrick and Agteacher. Thanks again guys. Aaron

aarondeere, I think you're on the right trail. I pull 18K loaded, had a ford 7.3L and added all the stuff to pull the weight includung Banks exhaust brake and Trans commander. Temps were always on the edge and had to run around 2300 RPM at 65mph. Great truck but I never felt comfortable while pulling. I bought an 07 FL M2 last year and have not regreted spending the money. Pulling is now a pleasure, longer the trip the better! At 65mph I'm at 1600RPM with better fuel milage than the Ford. Also, because the FL will carry so much weight, I set the hitch 18 inches behind the axle which gives more room in front of the 5ver to carry stuff.

With that size TH, you will certaintly need to look at a F350 or larger type truck to ensure your are rated for the weight you are pulling. My 2008 F350 Power Stroke Diesel DRW Crew Cab is perfect for my Raptor. Anything less than this size truck will start you overweight and underrated right off the bat. As I tell my kids, just because lots of people do it, does not necessarily make it right. JMHO. I also have the 8 foot bed so I have some room in the back for coolers, firewood etc.... I agree with the other poster about putting an ATV in the back. You will simply not have room. Our TH is one of the best things we have ever done. In fact, I was out looking at it yesterday sitting for the winter and wishing I was taking it somewhere with the boys and the toys. Have fun shopping and take your time so you get what you want.

Thre is alot of options on tow vehicles. Depends on how safe you want your family to be. We've had our International for 5 years and wouldn't want anything else. We have room for 2 quads behind the sleeper and only have 28K invested. This will outpull any 450/4500 out there for half the price. Doug
