...........I'm sticking with my 4x4. Our 3712TS Raptor is heavy, and there have been several occasions when I've been on wet grass and had to put it 4 wheel drive just to get moving - even on fairly level terrain. Plus, any time we’re at the coast near sand, I get an opportunity to assist folks w/o 4WD who need help (haven’t started charging folks………yet).

There are penalties: added weight of the front drive axle reduces available payload; some parasitic drag of 4WD components probably impacts mileage; potential expense for repair of 4WD system down the road. That said, we do some boon-docking, and I wouldn’t go there w/o 4WD, just wouldn’t feel confident.

Like most things in this hobby there are good, compelling arguments on both sides – I just prefer the peace of mind of knowing I have at least three driven wheels to get me out of the stupid things I’ve gotten myself into!

Thanks for all your thoughts and opinions. I am going with the 2 wheel drive after weighing it all out. Picking it up next weekend. Enjoy life. Alan

I completely agree with the poster above that disagrees!!!!!

If you use 4WD once in four years it is worth it. I have a 4WD Toyota 4Runner, a 4WD 2004 Suburban, and a 4WD Nissan Titan.

The 4Runner sees 4WD all the time (rockcrawler). The Titan has seen 4WD once (and boy...did I NEED 4WD!) and the Suburban never. And we live in the city where it rarely even rains! We do go skiing and that is why everytihng has 4WD.

I will not owns any truck or SUV that is not 4WD. But, that is me. If you can get by without it, than stick to 2WD.

Good luck.

I agree 100%, The only 2WD vehicle I own is a 350Z (sideways fun) all the rest are 4WD and I will never, ever have another TV that is not 4WD. When you need it, it WILL save the day.

There will come a day when are going to need to use 4x4 and this conversation is going to come flooding back if you do not have it. I myself will never own another truck without it and I only use mine about 10 times a year when I drag my trailer out into the desert or into the dunes. It gives me peace of mind knowing that my rig can go wherever I point it in any conditions. We also take the boys out shooting once we get camp set up and that requires some bombing around out in the boonies to find a nice safe area to shoot. Once my truck leaves the pavement it is ALWAYS in 4x4 and does not go back into 2x4 until the trailer is back on the pavement. I think you would like having it as it is much better than a shovel for when that day comes that you need it....
