Pastor J---- When we bought our RV last year and started full timing--our plan was to leave winter behind from December to April. Unfortunately, our business is not sold yet so we cannot leave for more than a couple of weeks this year. :-(

When I got up this morning it was 7 degrees outside and there is about 4" of snow on the ground here. I have a Class A and one thing I did was curtin off the driver and passenger area in the front to cut down on the amount of glass I was losing heat through. I also use an oil filled radiater type heater in the living room and a ceramic heater on a timer in the bedroom. The heater in the bedroom is set to come on an hour before I have to get out of bed so I can leave the furnace at a lower temp and conserve propane.
I'm currently working 10 hours a day so whenever the forcast calles for temps above 30 degrees during the day I turn the furnace off while I'm not there.
I also have a bunch of really warm clothes and a stack of warm blankets on the bed and several on the couch.
One more winter to go till I can follow the warm weather...

We were about 2 degrees warmer than you yesterday. Know what you mean about the blankets. Best thing we ever got (daughter's idea) was a mattress warmer!
We are working about the same number of hours.
Last night arriving home (had set thermostat to 69 while away) we realized the furnace was not on as we approached the rv. Sure enought--temp inside rv was 47!!
Switched furnace to off position. Then on again. Furnace kicked in! Thank you!!!
If we had been away much longer I am afraid we would have had more problems.
That is the second time it has happened, once we were home.
Calling the manufacturer today to ask about it.
Hope it is a simple problem!
We are very worried about leaving every day

Since I am a retired widow, the owner of the RV resort I am staying at in Amarillo, Texas has offered to help me get my 5th wheel all winterized before winter is upon us. He already setup my rig for me when I arrived at the park because my deceased husband use to be the one to do all of this. I took care of the inside of the trailer and he did all the outside work. The camp owner didn't charge me anything to setup my rig, so I purchased gift cards from Cracker Barrel Restaurant for he & his helper as a thank you for being so very nice to me.
Boy, do I wish now I had watched everything he did before he passed away!!! Ladies, just a little tip: Watch everything your hubby does with your rig!!! I was lucky to find someone do this for me, but not all camp sites are this nice and will volunteer to do it for free. You men are worth a million and don't get credit for what you do until the woman has to face doing it all herself.
Boy, do I miss my hubby doing it all for me!! I have the winter months to deal with it too since I sold the home and I live full time in the 33 ft. 5th wheel trailer with 3 king size slide outs.
This year will be my first year to experience a winter in it. This could be very interesting for me!!! I may spend the winter months writing a book of my experiences I have endured with my wonderful 5th wheel. Better to laugh than to cry at this time!!!
God Bless you all and good luck in your travels down the road!!!

Have you thought about moving further south for the winter - then you wouldn't need to winterize. Anything south of Austin will be warm enough. The area around Corpus Christi is really nice - I think you would like it. I think it would be a much more agreeable area year round than Amarillo.

Roanna, I would ditto BarbaraOK; there are lots of places where the weather is much better than Amarillo in the winter! Rio Grande Valley would be one; even Tucson, Az, is warmer than Amarillo; and Yuma is even better yet. If you aren't an Escapee, (www.escapees.com) I suggest you join. There are great Escapee's parks in southern Texas, New Mexico and Arizona where you would be welcomed, and helped to learn about the outside stuff with your 5er.

Roanna,
Are you capable of driving the rig ? If so I'd move farther south, like Barb suggested. If you are not able to drive the rig for whatever reason, have the guys winterize it for you. Make sure that you understand everything that they do, so if they aren't around and something goes to heck in a hand basket you can fix it without their intervention. Stuff always seems to mess up at the worst of times, when there is no one around to help. If you are going to stay in Amarillo make sure you get your skirts ordered early before the rush hits in the fall.

I learned ONE very important thing about snowbirding to Florida......do NOT attempt to go back up north in February.
I did and I gotta tell you there are still grip marks on my steering wheel. I got sidelined 4 times with snow storms. Even looking at radar and trying to plan your trip back just doesn't work with winter snow storms like it does when traveling in the summer months.
AND the southern folks do not have plows or know what salt is, so you are pretty much on your own if you try to continue your trip. No salt or plows with 2 inch snow down south = snow storm. I saw several trucks, TT's, and MH's in the ditches going thru the hills.
