There is an interesting feature story by Louis B. Parks in the morning Houston Chronicle on our largest Texas state park (471 square miles) and the plans for improving visitors’ accommodations. It offers only limited lodging and primitive camping.
One option would be to RV camp in Terlingua/Study Butte and day trip, or longer, into the ranch to hike and bike, tent, enjoy the solitude and scenery. Horses are welcome. Lots of info available at the following sites:

We have been to this park twice. I would not take any rv or tt or 5th wheel on the road into this park. We have stayed for a few days at the Ranch House not in the bunk house. The rangers fixed our meals. We love this Park. It is not a place you can get to in just a few minutes from the HWY. The 23 mile dirt road is two ruts. If you meet some one sombody is going to have to get off to the side so someone can pass. When we go we drive about 5- 7 miles per Hour.
I do not want to shake or ruin our truck on the road so we go slow.
This is a great Place the Rangers will take you on guided tours to the water falls and other places. There are places you can drive too.
You can hike all day any where you want to.
We took our MH there 2 years ago and disburse camped with no problems. We talked to a Ranger first and he told us the areas that would probably work for us and we really enjoyed ourselves. We used the toad to explore and go to different areas to start our hiking fun. (They have a small slot canyon in the park.) Also, after staying at Big Bend National Park for a week, it was nice for the dogs to be able to go hiking with us for a change.
Slightly off subject, I also saw on the Texas State Park website that they increased funding for Texas State Parks so they are planning lots of great improvements to many of their Parks. Way cool!
