We are planning to drive to upstate NY for Christmas (weather permitting) & may stop in Hersey PA on the way up. We normally drive up in warm weather & camp in our tent. Given the season, we are considering a hotel or maybe a camping cabin. If anyone has stayed in a cabin near Hersey, would love some feedback.
Also, any Hersey suggestions are welcome. Is the light display worth the $20 per car? We would like to do the chocolate tour. We are traveling w/ a 5 year old & will only be there 1 night (possibly 2).
Check for cabin rentals at Hershey High Meadow CG or Jonestown KOA. There the closest. However the motels in the area are pretty reasonable this time of year. Don't know where your goin in upstate NY but north of Syracuse 81 is very snowy and scheduled to be for the next week.
The light tour in my opinion is not worth the my money, but a lot of folks think otherwise. The kids will enjoy going through the park at Christmas. Be sure to bring plenty of warm clothes. The Strasburg Railroad has a Christmas train in Lancaster which is also a neat thing for the kids.
just returned form there this past weekend. Had a greatt ime, rides were great, if you stay in the cabins, buy your park tickets at the Campground, you save $2.00 per, if your going to do Dutch Wonderland as well (great for little guys) buy the combo pass for $13.00, GREAT savings over the $8.95 for Dutch and $9.95 for Hershey induvidually. The lights are great, we do it every year. My kids love it. $20 is the usual price, but if you go to Herhsey Park, you can buy the tickets for Sweet Lights at the gate for $16.00 and save $4.00. Park is great at Christmas, lots of kid friendly rides. Mine are 8,7,4,2 and they had a blast. Cabins at the Campgroud are nice, but remember no plumbing, so if you need the potty it's off to the bathhouse and the only open one is by the office.

Yes, the light display is worth every penny of the $20 fee. We loved it soo much last year that we are going back next year. Last year we got discount tickets from Burger King. Chocolate World is a nice place to visit and it has free admission (there is a charge for the 3-D movie/show). Hershey Park is also open for under $10 a person with a lot of smaller rides open.

Thanks!
Check out the hersheypark web site first, to see what is available.
They have something called christmas candylane, which is a section of the amusement park, mostly for small kids. I took my son a couple of times when he was small. It was fun for him going on rides with a winter coat!
The "chocolate tour" is a fake version of what the chocolate factory looks like. It takes about 20 minutes to go through, then you have a large gift shop to wander through.
Stay in a motel, you need the convenience when travelling in the winter time.
