The question which remains to be answered (for me) is whether the gas engined Sprinter has sufficient power for this chassis to be used as a viable, fully loaded camping van conversion.

The Dodge website says that the gas engine has 254 horsepower at 5900 RPM and 250 pound-feet of torque between 2500 and 5000 RPM...compared to the diesel engine which has 154 horsepower at 3400 RPM and 280 pound-feet of torque between 1200 and 2400 RPM.

This is greek to me, so I'd appreciate anyone's (hopefully educated) opinion on how the above specs for the gas engine would affect the performance of an Agile or an Ascent. The Sportsmobile under discussion here probably weighs at least 1000 pounds less than the Roadtrek or Pleasure-Way short Sprinter conversions.

The old 1996 Chevy RT210P I have ('95 Chevy chassis) has the following #'s for the 5.7L gasser. 190 horsepower @ 4000 rpm & 300 # torque @ 2400 rpm.

It's amazing to me how many more horses & much more torque they got out of that engine before scraping it for the new 6.0L engine.

I am not wild about the Pop-top on the Sprinter myself. But, it really has to do with what you are going to do with your B. To me, the point of having the Pop-up top is to be able to park it (with the top lowered) in a garage or to act as stealthy. The Sprinter is already at a too high height to begin with (for my tastes).

I agree. I am able to park my Sportsmobile poptop in the garage. That was a big plus for me. And it is a more "stealthy" camper in that it acts like an 8 passenger van most of the time (non-camping). It has 2 bucket and 2 bench seats to haul around the family. I went a more DIY camper route. It's just a Chevy Express that I had Sportsmobile add the poptop. I've had it for a year. Very versatile.

Does anyone know the height of the sprinter with the pop-up verses the chevy with the pop up?

Oops, sorry, I sure wasn't clear in my question. I'm trying to see if the chevy van would fit in my garage if the pop top was down. The sprinter just misses. I don't know if the chevy is shorter because if it is I could buy a used one and have sportsmobile convert it and add a pop top then it would maybe fit in the garage...

Might a good carpenter be able to reframe that garage door for a couple more inches?
