Little Bighorn Battlefield...I thought it was pretty neat.

Go to Headwaters State Park at the beginning of the Missouri River near Three Forks, Virginia City is a very interesting semi-restored ghost town, visit the National Forest Museum and the Smokejumpers Center in Missoula, Fishing in the Bighole River near the town of Wise River, Gibbons Battlefield and the Bighole Valley (Land of 10,000 haystacks) near Wisdom, also might try visiting one of the log cabin manufacturing sites in the Bitterroot Valley south of Missoula. Montana is a big state, many places to visit and enjoy the history and scenery, and the people are the greatest........western hospitality at its best!

We like the outdoors and exploring, so recommend Crystal Park and Coolidge (ghost town) in the Pioneer Mtns. Another interesting spot is Bannack, the original territorial capital of MT, also a ghost town. We panned for gold and garnets there. The Grasshopper CG and hot springs are near these. The Chief Joseph Battlefield is interesting. The Pintler Loop road between Anaconda and Drummond goes by Georgetown Lake and through Phillipsburg (a quaint town with lots of unusual shops). You can go over the Skalkaho Pass from Phillipsburg to Hamilton (but not with a really large rv) and stop at the sapphire mine and find a few nice sapphires. You can take the larger sapphires to Phillipsburg and get them polished and set. All these places are in Western and SW MT.
Flathead Lake is huge and beautiful - our property is on the hilltop at the south end of the lake.
If you have particular interests, let me know. I can likely recommend a few places. I was born and raised in western MT.

I would highly recommend Lewis and Clark Cavern / State Park. The cave is amazing. They recently installed new lightly that was designed to enhance the features. There is ample dry camping near the park entrance.

In addition to the above I suggest a stop at Pompeys Pillar Nat'l Monument just off I-94 (exit 23) NE of Billings. One of only three places historians are certain were visited by Lewis & Clark on their explorations. Clark inscribed his name on a sandstone cliff with the date and described it in his journals. A very nice visitor center/museum is also on the site.

With that much time I'd drive across the border and spend 6 days in the Canadian Rockies (Banff-Jasper) then drop back down to St. Marys on highway 6 out of Waterton Lakes. You wont be disappointed!

Wow, I'm impressed that members from Montana actually replied to this topic! Usually people reply that don't even live here.
Okay, what about Virginia City and Nevada City? Both are great little old gold mining towns with alot to do. There is also a KOA located right in Virginia City.
Butte has alot of copper mining history with underground tours.
Near Ennis is the flyfishing capital.
Paradise Valley (south of Livingston) is wonderful scenery to just take in the views.

Sit down beside the Yellowstone or Madison River and listen to the water while reading a good book. Does not get any better except maybe fly fishing the same rivers. Enjoy your trip. I love Montana.
