So I'm doin' my normal patrol, and I get behind this truck towing a trailer. He's going about 40 mph on a surface street (just over the speed limit, but no biggie). There is a skid steer loader on the two axle trailer. The tow vehicle is an F450 with a flat deck. Connection is a pintle hitch.

So, what's strange about this all the smoke rolling off of the trailer tires/wheels. As I follow him for a few seconds, I can see that three of the four wheels are turning, and one is locked solid, just dragging along at 40 mph. I pull him over, and ask him if he knows that the trailer brakes are on fire, and he's dragging a wheel. He says yeah, he noticed that, but he's only a few blocks from his desination. What a dummy!

Turns out that he has been driving with the electric brakes in full braking mode for about 5 - 7 miles. I immediately suspect the break away cable has come unplugged.....but it's not even connected to anything. It's still rolled up in a nice round coil on the trailer tonque. I show him the break away cable, and he asks; "What's that for?" Go figure that the trailer isn't his, but belongs to the company. Three of the four brakes are smoked (literally), and one tire is ruined. The 3 hubs on the wheels that were turning are so hot that a handful of snow thrown on them sizzles and evaporates immediately.

I called a tow truck (flat deck) for the trailer, and the skid steer went on another trailer towed by a different truck.

Ticket he got was for not having the break away connected - $105.00, then the tow truck bill for hauling the trailer away was about $50.
I looked, but there is no ticket for being a complete MORON!

Unbelieveable.....

The reason there is so much studity around is because it isn't against the law. If it were, we would the rest of us be?

Sounds a bit like thanksgiving 2006. We were headed back from Destin Fl and pulled into the Flying J south of Montgomery. As we came out we noticed I65 was a parking lot so we went towards Pentlala to go back via US31.

Anyway, as we cross the bridge we catch up to a pickup (overloaded) with a flat bed and a skid steer on it. Only the trailer has just 3 tires(right rear was not installed). Just stayed back a bit. The passenger was hanging out the window watching the buldge in the remaining right tire. Made it about 1/4 mile before the other right blew and the rim and hub started eating the asphalt.

Does enyone really believe stupid people would be smart enough to obey a law against being stupid.

I've noticed that quite intelligent people can be incredibly stupid.
