I dig our Champion.
The price was right for us and it has performed great for us so far.

That said, I just bought a boat, so what do i know about saving money....

May I ask if by any chance you might have considered the Kipor over the Champion?

What ever disadvantages an inverter genset has (and starting inductive loads is one of them), for camping purposes there is an elephant in the room and that is noise. The inverter gensets are far quieter during lighly loaded operation when they're barely above an idle. And that condition is very usable for camping-charging batteries, running lights, tv, etc. It has been my experience that a large fraction of generator time has been at a third or less capacity, maximizing the noise advantages of the inverter genset.

I'd say the much bigger elephant is people who want to sit in their RV all day and believe a quieter should force all their neighbors to tolerate this.

I say this because my use is nothing like you describe. I run a generator so I can run air conditioning or something large. The rest of the time silence and batteries are the rule.

The rudest thing I could imagine is someone who thinks I should tolerate them running their "quieter" generator all day so they can sit indoors and watch television.

same here even though I full time, we spend many more hours on battery than genset, most of the year it is mainly for charging the batteries and/or the MW, only in the hottest part of the summer does it get a good run for the A/C unit

with that said i still get about 25-30 hrs week, avg 4 per day for charging and cooking, im on the PC for many hours every night and we do watch some TV or a movie during the week..
so the genny has to be on some each day, to resupply my (2) trojan batteries
IF i had battery space and the money for about 400 watts ( or MORE ) of Solar panels, i could reduce my genny runtime, but I do not have either

without the PC, the power useage would be less. but i'm not giving up my hobby and entertainment

Actually, i did indeed look at the Kipor as well!
At the time, i was looking at the 2000... it was when they were new and pretty cheap.... They jumped in price right before i was ready to pull the trigger.
Also, while we dont run our a/c much, we did want to be able to if needed, and the 2000 wouldnt hack that....
The 3000 was quite a bit more expensive...
After reading up on this forum for prob 6-8 months, i found the Champion fit both the power requirements and the money pit requirements.. heh

Go over to the "3000 Watt Chinese Gensets Info" thread for some interesting comments on Duropower.

Champion has great customer service - documented over and
over. Duropower (apparently) doesn't enjoy the same reputation.

I bought the Kipor... love it and enjoy the noise level. We mostly use while traveling and stopping to have lunch etc. I has also comes in handy when the power goes at home. I looked at all the rest and believe for me I made the right choice.

Ol Bombero is a old timer around these parts and pretty moxie (smart) if I do say so. Well.(and that's a deep )I do know something about the subject. Joe Friday, "just the facts mam, just the facts". I ordered a DuroPower DP3500EC one day and 5 days later it was delivered by FedEx to my door. The carton was really high class stuff. Beautiful to look at. The carton was opened and I found it was well packed from the factory. It was packed with 6 2" pieces of Styrofoam that was later cover with 1/4" hardboard and made wonderful sound lowering panels and cover for the little fellow. The battery was found to have a slight crack caused by the securing strap being to tight from the factory. DuroPower was contacted, no response. Several times. I will move on down melody lane. The DP3500EC looks like a high quality genset sitting next to my Champion C46540. Why a Champion and a DuroPower. Short story. I found I needed a Electric Start genset due to my failing health. The DuroPower was sweet to my Shallow Pocket Blues. The genset operates flawlessly with a sweet sound.
