It is easier to list what my grands do not like to do while camping.

We must bring their bikes. Our grandchildren are country boys so the campground to them is like a small city with new friends just waiting to be met.

They love exploring and looking for nature. Bugs and toads are captured and released. Fish are caught and released. Leaves collected and pressed between waxed paper. Birds and wild life are often seen and identified.

They play games such as ladder golf, frisbee, horseshoes, badmiton and just plain ole catch.

We do take a small television, a laptop computer to use as a DVD. We have found that these are both useful for settling down at night. Usually the kids fall asleep within minutes after the start of a movie.

Oh and for goodness sake, we can't forget the smores or cooking hotdogs on a stick.

My grandkids love camping and we love taking them.

DS8 and DD5 have similar interests. Probably the best for them is making friends with other kids.
The playground is always a winner-and one for us if it buys us some peace.
DS-his bike
Hiking (aka "exploring")
Swimming
Tubing-if we are travelling with GP's and their boat
We're working on the fishing, both like it.
And if there is a mudpuddle in the campground they will find it.

Any activity that requires them to get wet and sandy at the ocean.

I would have a hard time picking, they enjoy the family time, from swimming, bike hikes, campfire, anything to do with family fun.

The outdoors is a wonderful place to be....

Mine love all the activities related to camping, but DD6 especially loves catching the critters at CG's like lizards, bugs, frogs, and so on.

This is a great list of things kids like to do. I was amazed that most of it didn't cost much money. Not many mentioned an expensive campground playground or mini golf.

With bike riding, do they just ride in the road? Do you stay at campgrounds that have special places for the kids to ride?

my kids just ride in the road. Most state parks require helmets. From the age of about 10 I have allowed them to ride more or less freely. My rules were: you have to stay together and I have to be able to reach you by walkie-talkie at all times. Check in every 30-60min. Don't go into anyone's camper without my permission. It worked out fine. Never had a problem with the kids or other campers. Even now, DD14 carries her bike wherever we go.She just likes having her own wheels so she can go off without the parentals sometimes.

Hey Dee, Hope your enjoying your semi retirement.

We let em loose on campground roads usually. Keeping an eye on them, most campgrounds seem to be quiet after the Friday night rush to get it... We enjoy just hanging!
