Yes,I know all about the mothballed ferries as I live in Silverdale and it was mostly those that live on Braindead Island that got them stopped..I was just involved in the Ferry Summit which involved everyone around the sound and finally we had some people from trhe Seattle area show up for one of these things...We had officials from all the way up in Island county to some from Pierce county and every where in between..It will very interesting to see what happens out of this meeting..Oh and by the way,most people there paid their own way....

I would also recommend Deception Pass. Another great option is Fort Ebey near Coupeville. We love that campground and you wouldn't have any problems fitting in there. Some of it is closed in the winter, but the hook up sites are open. Coupeville is a great little town to explore and you aren't too far form Anacortes either.

Kinda looks as if,depending on the weather (ice,snow anf sub-zero temps) we're gonna be heading for Bayview SP the day after Christmas..Told the DW that there were all these neat places to shop and so now she's ready..We have been to most of them like;La Connor,Anacortes,the outlet mall at Marysville and there is a good possibility we'll be going to Snohomish as she has seen the listing of the Antique stores there...
Bayview is a non reservation park,so, we will be leaving here early enuff to drive around from Silverdale and still be able to do an alternative if need be. Thanks for the help...

Well, I can attest to the antique stores in Snohomish, as I live about 3 minutes from them. There are a few good places to eat there also. For basic good food and drink try Fred's Ale House. Have a great time.

You should be fine without reservations at Bayview at this time of the year. The wooded loop is usually closed at this time of year. Most of the spots are around the large meadow in the front. Great for kids, dogs, and games. Easy walk to the beach. Try to get one of the spots at the back of the loop if possible--you will get more privacy. Bayview is nothing fancy, but we always love the relaxed feel there and the convenience to just about everywhere in the area. Try the Tacos Guaymas in Burlington for inexpensive Mexican. The LaConner Brewing Company has a great brewpub.

Stay away from Sequim Bay SP, too close to road. I like Fort Flagler too as another poster mentioned. I was born and raised on the NOP (N Olympic Peninsula). Another great one is Salt Creek Rec Area, a county park just a bit west of Port Angeles. Starting to get too well know by the city folk in Seattle though this time of year will not be a problem.

I love Salt Creek and we have camped there several times in the past.. In case you haven't been there lately,they have paved all the full hook-up sites in the meadow and they are awesome.. They still don't have a resaervation service and most of the people camp there for the full time allowable and sometimes they aren't too quick to enforce the locals and that amkles it even harder..P.A.HS has an annual X-country running invitational there and I usually seem to get the bus trip for the Bremerton team,so I get a lot of wander time... The spit at low tide is awesome...

Yes it is Bigdog. That is Tongue Point and that is one of the best tidepool experiences anyone will ever have. Also the beach, Crescent Beach is very fun, during low or high tide you can walk forever out into the bay, it remains very shallow for a long ways. Avoid crossing the creek that empties into the bay however as the private property landowner is a real $&##$@$((*&.

I also recommend Bayview. For a State Park we enjoy that one. Ten miles down our road is Birch Bay State Park. Never stayed there but a popular park none the less. Fairly close to Bellingham for shopping...a few minutes from Blaine, Lynden, and the Silver Reef Casino. Birch Bay

Sequim Bay State Park is still open and some of the spots have full hook-ups. It is located just east of Sequim and is reasonably close to Port Townsend and Port Angeles.
