We are planning on going out for the week after Christmas and want to stay in a state park.. I got the old guy winter pass and I want to REALLY get my money out of it... I want to go to Cape Disappointment, but the DW kinda wants to go somewhere besides the beach..Which S.P.s are kinda near larger towns (for her it isn't camping if there aren't antiques or other shopping near by) and have enuff room for a 34' TT???? I should know those things, but since I detest pulling the TT thru Seattle,we don't usually camp in that area..

Jon,
Since she won't go to Cape Disappointment SP (that was going to be my suggestion), how about Ft. Stevens SP in Oregon just across the Columbia? Then she can shop antiques in Gearhart and all the cutsie stores in Cannon Beach.
How about that Apple Cup game!!

How about Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend. Lots of shopping for DW there and a real nice park. If you go there wave at us we will be at Fort Casey State Park across the way on Whidbey Island.

I guess we'd have to wave as right now there isn't any ferry service...We usually stay at Hudson Point Marina in P.T.,but could stay at Fort Wordenwith the pass...They cost you $50 if you're over a certain age and you get free camping till about April.. You do have to pay for h/us tho.. A whole $6...

Try Bayview SP near La Conner. Nice spots near a beach or in a wooded loop. The loop up front is better for big rigs. Five mile paved bike trail along Padilla Bay. Great nature center and museum a few miles to the north. Easy drive to several antique shops in La Conner. You can also drive to Deception Pass, Mt. Vernon, Whidbey Island and much more within an hour radius. Hard to beat for winter fun and shopping.
Deception Pass SP is also a good option since you can't get in most of the summer.
On the peninsula you may want to consider Sequim Bay SP. The hookup loop is a little close to 101, but lots to do. Fort Worden SP is always a winner.

Fort Flagler SP is about a 40 mile drive to Port Townsend, but it is also a real gem with great trails and historical WW2 bunkers.

Most of Deception Pass State Park is closed during the Winter. We like to stay in non-serviced site 117, close to the water. I think all that is open are the serviced sites that are way in the back of the park.
Bigdog,
There is walkon ferry service. They are using one of their catamarran ferries that have been in mothballs since 2004. They were used somewhere where the local citizens got them banned for making too big a wake.
We are well aware of the off season senior pass. We take full advantage of it. We have used ours 16 nights so far this season mostly at Fort Casey.

Last year we were in nw Washington and drove into Dosewallup SP. As we were already setup & paid at another park, we were very impressed with this state park. It is on Hwy 101 between Port Townsend & Shelton but may be too far for antique shopping in the area.
Have a great trip.
