Started having trouble with ours so replaced with mini-blinds. Removed valances to remove blinds and install the new blinds then put the valances back up. Like the mini-blinds better anyway have had both kinds in motorhomes before. Richard

I bought a spool of string from a fabric outlet store. I took a sample down and they had what looks to be the same stuff. I say it looks to be the same but apparently is not because none of the strings I have replaces have broke. Just about all the originals have. I have to remove the valance around mine to get the shade off. It isn’t too difficult to replace the strings.

Got the repair instructions from the Winnebago site and repaired two blinds without taking them down. Relatively easy to do and saves time.

Our day/nights are mounted on a bracket that is spring tensioned. Don't need to remove the valence. Just reach in and pull the top of the blind down and toward you to unclip. Strong, steady pull will allow it to come off the spring tension.
I then mail mine to Rainbow Shades, 574 875-6162.

I had my first broken shade string last month. I took the shade down, took it apart and ordered a roll of string. While I was waiting for the string I took down another shade assembly and washed it with Simple Green and let it dry in the sun. It looked so good I took down all of the others and washed them too. The string arrived in a few days, I re-strung the shade after I washed it and hung it back up. The only tough part was the tensioning. I pushed the both day and night shades all the way to the top, then pulled the string taut. I tied the knots at the bottom about 1.5 inches above the anchor points at the bottom. This provided the correct tension and stretch of the springs at the top of the shade. They all work and look like new now.

I not only took them down I painted my blinds. I am restoring the interior of an old Bluebird Wanderlodge and the pleated blinds are high quality but the wrong color. I priced new ones and was rather taken back with the cost. Better then $100 a window and I had 5 to do. I figured why not give it a try. Hung them up in the garage and sprayed them with fabric and vinyl paint (duplicolor product). Took a good amount of paint to get a good covering of the fabric but certainly turned out nicely and saved a bunch of money. I did get into restringing one and on a scale of things I've tackled on the bus this was pretty easy. Pay attention to how things come apart and you should be fine. JEH
