My wife and I are on total disability. Are there any campgrounds that give discounts to the disabled with proof from the government?

Many states will offer discounts to their citizens at State Parks upon proof of their disabilities. I have no knowledge of California regulations. According to the ADA it is required that they have SOME campsites that are accessible and available for disabled campers. I don't THINK the laws have changed since I was an ADA coordinator for the State of Kansas but at THAT time if anyone that was NOT disabled camped in an accessible site and a disabled person couldn't find another assessable site, the non qualified campers would be required to vacate the site.
Good luck / skip

Your tax dollars at work.....
Some state parks accept this card
How to Obtain a Golden Access Passport
Here's how to obtain a Golden Access Passport, which is a free lifetime entrance pass to national parks for persons who are blind or permanently disabled.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's How:
Go to any National Park Service facility that charges an entrance fee.
Show proof of medically determined disability and eligibility for receiving benefits under federal law.
You will receive your Golden Access Passport, free of charge.
Tips:
The Golden Access Passport admits the passholder and any accompanying passengers in a private vehicle. Where entry is not by private vehicle, the passport admits the pass holder, spouse, children, and parents.
The pass provides a 50% discount on federal use fees charged for facilities and services such as fees for camping, swimming, parking, boat launching, or cave tours.
The pass does not cover or reduce special recreation permit fees or fees charged by concessionaires

The Golden Access Pass is no longer available but it has been replaced by the America The Beautiful Access Pass, the benefits are almost the same. Her is a link to provide more info. I've got one and it is a good thing. Does not require 100% disability to get one.

Most Corps of Engineers (COE) parks will give a 50% discount for disabled campers, or at least that has been my experience.

Our experience also: COEs yes, 50% off. And we discovered by accident that Arkansas state parks have the same discount.

Oklahoma State Parks offer a discount, with proof of disability. DH has to show his medicare card. The parks in our neck of the woods are $10.00 a night. Not sure about the prices in the rest of the state, it depends on what the regular price is.

California State Parks give a 50% discount to the disabled. You need to apply for their disabled pass.

While I was in Washington, we used a ferry and I noticed a discount for handicapped people. They asked for a card or letter or something in writing for proof. It seems Washington issues something along these lines. (Actually, I called the State of Washington to ask, they told me and due to morphine, I can't remember what they said).
I contacted the State of Confusion (OK, Calif.) and was told Calif. DMV issues a "letter" with your handicapped placard. THAT is your "ID". And it does say all the things I needed. I also carry a copy of Social Security's letter saying I am classified as 100% disabled.
I have a Calif State Pass (somewhere) that is lifetime I think, that surprised me, but it is nice not to have to file every couple of years. There is another pass from Calif. that is not permanent...sorry, can't remember the name of it. Even the counties out here have permits for the individual.
Good luck with your travels, most parks will do all they can to help you if you can call ahead and inform them of your needs.
I hope you have a Merry Christmas and realize how lucky we are to have so many friends right here on this forum...Dave
