I'm the cook in our motorhome. The only problem I have with a convection/microwave is that when you use the bake option, the oven gets very hot and you lose your microwave during the baking. I multi-task when cooking and use the microwave for veggies, etc. I bought a toaster oven for small baking jobs. Works great for biscuits! I also use it for small casseroles, fish, cornbread, desserts. It doesn't seem to heat up the coach as much as the convection. I still prefer the convection/microwave vs. the traditional oven. We do cook a lot in our motorhome regardless of what the sales folks say. Nothing is better than breakfast cooked in the motorhome and eaten outside!

You do get more storage with a convection only. The convection is small and takes a lot of time to pre-heat so I don't think cooking time is much of a factor one over the other....I like food cooked in the gas oven better than the convection and my wife prefers the gas oven...it is a must and Sully is right about versatility.
The gas oven does get too hot and is hard to regulate so you need to put in a clay stone large enough to cover the bottom.....this does wonders for temp regulation and not burning the bottom of your food...heavier cook wear also helps a lot.

Thats us for sure. In our gasser with a oven she will sometimes have 3 things cooking at the same time. And when she's not using the oven she stores stuff in it.

There are no compromises except that you do need to adjust your current style of baking just a little. First, reduce the temperature by about 10 degrees - the heat is blow all around the food so you don't need to have the heat so hot. Second, it usually takes a shorter period of time. ANY baked good is better done in a convection oven. The head is evenly distributed so better baking.

I especially love ours in the morning as I use the exhaust fan over the stove to circulate the heat from the oven into the rest of the coach and take the chill off of the coach. I do wish the previous owner had not had the gas oven installed (which cost him extra) - it is just an awkward storage area for us.

Last fall I saw a late model MOHO on the lot at MHSRV.com that had a small Viking oven/cooktop in it. That had to be way custom from the factory. I don't know if they still have it or not, it was a high end rig as you can guess.

When we were shopping, an LP oven was a must-have so we could use the oven w/o the generator when we have no hookups, like in a national park. I would also like to switch out my micro for a micro/convection to use when we do have hookup.

Strange that no one has mentioned the noise of the convection oven's fan while cooking. I find it very annoying. Guess their genset is masking the noise when they are dry camped in the quiet outback. For us a regular oven would be preferred.

If you think you'll use it, keep looking. We have the Microwave/Convection AND a gas oven and use both. Each has it's uses, and advantages/disadvantages.

Our DP came with all three the Microwave/Convection AND a gas oven. Certain things are great in the convection, we use the microwave for quick heating and the oven for the other stuff. They all have their uses.
But if there is not an oven in the coach you love have one put in they are not a big deal to add.

I think there's a certain "bling" factor associated with convection ovens that's perhaps not there with a conventional one. I got the impression the people marketing the higher end DPs are attracted to that sort of feature (regardless of what their customers are attracted to).
