We want to add a catalytic heater to our 40' DP. What would be a good size and brand? The heater doesn't have to COMPLETELY heat the MH - just supplement the two furnaces, saving us some LP gas and battery power.

Olympian is a good brand. Depending on how much you use it the Wave 6 may be all you need.

I agree with the prior post about the Olympian catalytic heater. Here is a story about that heater with a bunch of info:

I have a Wave 6 (6,000 btu) in my 33' MH and it does a fine job of maintaining the heat.

I use a "Mr. Heater" with great success. They make a 1 or 2 brick unit. I use mine with a length of hose attached to it so I can move it around to where I want to utilize the heat. They come with an automatic tip and low oxygen safety shutoff. I would add that the Olympian brand is also a good heater.

If it's a Catalytic you are looking for, then it's the Olympian brand.
The Mr. Heater Buddy and Big Buddy do not use the true cataytic technology with a platinum impregnated pad like the Olympian.

I use an Olympian Wave 8 in my 30'TT and a Buddy in the PUP.

Thanks for the info. Now I see why Olympian is more expensive than Mr Heater.

We use a Wave 6 in our 30ft. Using the portable feature we can set it up mid-coach or in front on the doghouse. The Passenger side window has the screen on the outside so I open it about 1/2 inch for the required air supply. With the bedroom ceiling vent open an inch, the airflow keeps the heat and moisture generated going in the right direction.
Most of the time it is on the lower setting but occasionally it's nice to turn it all the way up. For a 40ft coach you may want the larger Wave 8.

As an aside, the airflow does not heat my storage tanks like the furnace does so I usually have it set up to only supplement the furnace. Meaning I keep it low enough so that the furnace still comes on several times a night instead several times an hour.

There was quite a bit of good info about heater sizing in this previous post: Questions about the Olympian Wave 3 LP Heater

I used an Olympic Wave 6 in my small 25 ft single slide 5th wheel and it put out too much heat even at low setting. Had to downsize to a Wave 3 which works just fine. My usage is in relatively mild cold weater conditions.

I have a 6,000 Btu Olympic catalytic heater that heats my 30' Bounder when it is above 32 well, but below that temperature I might need to run the furnace a bit to send heat to all ends of the RV, basement and provide extra warmth.

You can check this website for a great price. Look at "Checkout" for the heater, leg kit, quick disconnect gas line kit and the dust cover - required to keep it clean for long pad life.
